Please take a minute to sign this important
petition. We are asking Dr. Linda Lane to wait until the newly elected
school board members are sworn in to vote on critical issues facing our
schools.

Another reason to move more slowly- giving the public a chance to understand and comment on this proposal. A public hearing following shortly after the first mention of some of these proposals, just before Thanksgiving, is not a good way to gather public input.
If Lane and co. refuse to wait until the new board members get in to discuss and vote on such major items (school closings, TFA, etc.), then we know the "fix" is in already.
Hopefully, Bill Peduto's request to our out going Mayor awoke one or two of the outgoing Board Members. There are issues that you should not force on the new Board of Education. Of course, the biggest one was the extention of the Superintendent's contract. That decision should have been left to the new Board. The Board legally can make any decision right up to the swearing in of the new Board. Yet, ethically they should only vote on the Superintendent's bonus, because they worked with the Superintendent during the year the bonus is to be awarded for.
I cannot fathom why an out-going board member would continue to fight for issues like TFA? Go out with the dignity that you did the job before you and it is time to move forward and allow the new board to make the decisions.
The explanation being given is that they are "duly sworn" until the end of the month and will continue to vote until that time on what is brought before them. And right there is the problem- the board has taken the attitude that it is the administration that is in charge, not the board. Under that approach, if the administration will be the same after the end of the month then then it might as well continue on uninterrupted.
Or their real fear-- that four former educators plus Mr. Brentley, will show this city why board members are meant to represent the citzens!
