"Perry High School and Westinghouse Fight!
Last night the two teams
fist fought in the middle of the South Stadium field. Pittsburgh Public
School Police Officers and Security Officers had to get the situation
under control. Many Officers were hit and without them it would had been
students severely hurt! No City of Pittsburgh Officers were called or
present. The fight was down right ugly! Many parents have it on film.
Good Job Pittsburgh Public School Public Safety! Good Job!"

Thoughts on whether an incident like this should be reported in the paper? Did anyone notify a reporter?
No one notified anyone. The City Police were not called. Only the Police Officers and Security Officers were there from the Pittsburgh Public Schools. The two Chiefs(Brown and Novicki)and one Commander(Piasecki)were not present for the fight either.

Brown was there but left when he seen things starting to heat up [DELETED] he is not the right man for the job at least fazden would have gotten his hands dirty. i know novicki is sick and brown does not have the credentials to take her job. I hope the hire a new chief that treats him the way he treats his officers and i hope it is someone in our department that he treaded bad. what goes around comes around
Commander Piasecki stayed for the entire first game. Assistant Chief Brown was there for just the beginning of the game and left his crew to go home. Chief Novicki is off sick! Does Administration and Lane know about this matter and that no Commander or Chief was present? The City Police were there for a little bit and then they left about 9:30pm after their shift.
I did not see anyone cuffed? That is because their were more security then police and they go not give them cuffs. The district lets the security that handle the situations get hit. Where was a Commander or Chief or why didn't anyone call the city police?
Video links?
The chief was not there and the police did nothing and security did everything.
How can anyone stop that; that is what they do in the classrooms, so why not take it to the field?
Hello - Rick Earle from Channel 11 is looking for info/video if any of you have it. Please email: rearle@wpxi.com or call him on his cell at 412-287-6097.
Maybe the referees did not build relationships with the players?
Rick Earle needs to investigate how a school district can blow through 40 million dollars and still need 8 million more to figure out why things aren't working!
I watched the report linked above that included the statement from pps that there would be school based discipline which I have no problem with. an out-of-school suspension is likely less effective. however, i would like to ask about the code of conduct and the work the A+ teen bloc kids did on it. My terminology is probably wrong but, the state reports on incidents in the safe schools report for all schools in the commonwealth. Shouldn't there be a consistent set of standards for identifying infractions and standard disciplinary actions too? Otherwise, ratings and rankings are skewed.
What does school based discipline consist of? And how is school based discipline for outrageous behavior different from discipline for ordinary infractions?
Word is that the principal of Perry will cancel the rest of the football season. Effective discipline without suspension.
A player from Westinghluse struck a player from Perry after the play and 3 kids from Westinghouse are getting school based discipline but Perry's principal is going to end their season? What don't we know? Is the discipline balanced?
Didn't players from both teams join in the brawl?
The season is nearly completed. Perhaps one more game?
Perry is 2-5 overall and only has 1 more game vs Brashear. Not playing this game punishes Brashear also.
Westinghouse is 0-5 and has 1 more game - an exhibition game in West Virginia.
Both teams are now suspended for 1 week. I'm sure the media coverage "helped" suspend the teams, otherwise, they may have gone with just a slap on the wrist.
If each team only had one more game and no chance of qualifying for the playoffs then that is the same as canceling the rest of the season, right? It just sounds more serious when referred to as "the rest of the season."
In the video spectators seem to be enjoying the fight and egging them on. Sadly, people enjoy a fight and so send the wrong message to players (see professional hockey- but the league has the means to keep it under control there).

Don't know if this should be a new post:

Bill Gallagher, the previous Perry Coach, seems to be missed, greatly.
