New Post

The Chief of Police position is now posted. Should the Chief have to have a college degree making them educated for a job in charge of an entire department? The PPS changed the position from needing an college educated chief to no longer needing a college education. Why? "

They must have someone in mind already who DOESN'T have a college degree. I would think that in this day and age, you would want/require your Chief to have a degree in criminal justice or something similar.

Why? You can have a Superintendent who does not have a degree in education. Or hold a certificate in supervision, principal or even building engineer. (head custodian) At least he/she would have a boiler license, pool maintenance certificate and a certificate to perform exterminators duties.

As a part of the "Broad/Gates" thinking-besides total disdain for building trades/CTE- hands on skills- there is also a disdain for "earned degrees/ certifications"-- part of the everything that went before must be thrown out mentality. Strangely i still want my doctor to have an M.D.

This is a common practice. Jobs were qualified candidates applied with extensive resumes were not even interviewed for the job to be reposted with lesser qualifications because they had someone in mind. Director of professional development comes to mind. Not to mention that assistant principals were hired without certifications and still enrolled in school. And we are still wondering why we have issues

George Brown was hired as the new Chief of School Safety at a salary of $86,223. What are his qualifications/credentials? That's more than the starting salary of new teachers.

Another PPS practice they use when they want a certain candidate, but he/she doesn't meet the qualifications, is they allow that person to get qualified while on the job.

Teacher starting salaries are nowhere near that that's where they top off that is 85,000
