As a practical matter, though, aren't there so many people who pull the lever for the straight Democratic ticket that it would be very difficult for a Republican to win? Has a Republican won any office in recent years in this way?
Not that many people who pull the single party lever. Frankly, with change in the air, and with the new machines, it is NOT a slam dunk based on numbness of habit.
If Lisa Jones works harder and builds more relationships, and tells a great story, she can win. And, the one with more recruits has a much better chance too.
I have a lot of faith in positive outcomes of a great campaign.

Hazuda holds off Jones, 59%- 40%; strong showing for a challenger.
So Ware is the only one who is leaving?
Does anyone know if Jones cross-filed? Her's was an impressive showing for someone who was an unknown Chemistry teacher before the election.
Yes Jones crossfiled and won as a Republican which means a fall show down
Yes Jones crossfiled and won as a Republican
Finally got my paper. Jones had cross-filed.
As a practical matter, though, aren't there so many people who pull the lever for the straight Democratic ticket that it would be very difficult for a Republican to win? Has a Republican won any office in recent years in this way?
