Let us ask the tough questions.

Lynda Wrenn is the endorsed Democrat and has a lot of support. You have to wonder if the PG is trying to make this into more of a contest than it actually is.

"she has seen what has worked and what hasn't as a school volunteer"

That has value, to be sure. But we currently have some ex-teachers on the Board. They certainly have seen what has worked, and what hasn't.

Yet nothing has changed. Nothing. I know it's early, but I expected to see at least some progress by now.

Regardless of the PG's intentions, any contested race provides the opportunity for the issues to be raised and debated in a forum for public consumption.

Lynda Wrenn can hopefully provide some insight as to her understanding of the decisions responsible for the failure of PPS to meet academic standards in the education of Pittsburgh's children.

The question needs to be asked.

Nothing is going to change until we get a new Superintendent! These board members didn't hire her.

8:30 PM you are correct until we get a new Superintendent PPS will continue to go down the road of
Dis-Education what about if the state run PPS like the way they do in Duquesne School Dist. by having state board members like retired principals ,professors educators I thought I just throw that out there nothing to lose but everything to GAIN!!!!!!!

11:54 - Some of this Board hired Lane. The rest have supported her regime in every possible way. She is a nice lady! The only problem is that she's not and educator and knows very little about urban education.

The biggest problem is the hiring process. You would think that Jody Spolar has been there long enough to be good at that process. But then again Human Resources has a dozen or so young people who don't have the slightest idea what makes a good teacher.

The PG article posted today about funding running out indicates that PPS employs a consultant to review teacher applications.

Oh yes that is true questioner--in addition to a whole team of young people who work in the HR officeS!

I wonder what all of them do? What does the consultant do? You know there are CONSULTANTS and teams of young people all over central office.

There's not much left to do but PR for the highly paid Chiefs and Superintendents. The Principal/Asst Supers at Obama and Allderdice are two exceptions!!
