PURE Reform has created this blog as a forum for parents, teachers and community members to share information and voice concerns regrading the reform process in the Pittsburgh Public Schools. Although we would like to foster constructive dialogue, PURE Reform does not edit content. The views expressed by bloggers in this forum are not necessarily views held by PURE Reform.

If this change was to take place under the supervision of George Cupples, I'd say fantastic. If it were to take place under the leadership of Bob Pajak, I'd say fine. I have some real reservations about this "leadership" making anything positive out of this.
Does Peabody not have football facilities? Word is that there are only 2 U Prep basketball players. What if Obama and Westinghouse football players also far outnumber U Prep- does it make sense for them to play under the U Prep name?
Yeah, what a mess this is going to be. Why not just let schools field their own teams and then be placed accordingly--at A, AA, AAA or AAAA? Why this hodge-podge of schools?
Due to the logistics, it seems like very few students are traveling between schools. The Schenley building would probably be workable for U Prep, Obama and Sci Tech, and Westinghouse could perhaps go to Allderdice. But U Prep and Westinghouse going to the Peabody building does not seem practical.
We will need a major athletic program overhaul starting at the top, to be competitive with the WPIAL. We need someone with a vision and fund raising/grant writing abilities. How about Mark R.?
Anon at 12:04, you must be joking. You need someone that is not a legend in his own mind. You can look at a few teams in a few sports that would be competitive. Most however, would be cellar dwellers.
Mark R. does not have a fulltime employer. He could be perfect. So often parents have the desire and enthusiasm but pesky things like jobs get in the way of a 24/7 commitment.
Another illustration as to the disconnect of parents and the chasm between administration and teachers, which is obvious, and teachers and the public. Let teachers call the shots, not part-timers, novices, ivory tower types or others. Look where those types have gotten us so far.

Is he working at Obama-they have great Phys Ed teachers there-maybe he should hookup and coach in Homewood with one of the teachers-the likes of Trovato and other teachers-they are true educators.
My son adores Trovato-and he started teaching at 57 years old.
We do have great PhysEd teachers-but with the school realignment and students going to charters and the lack of emphasis on extracurricular activities by the present PPS Adm-sports and add WPIAL.
Mark R needs to teach or substitute teaches and really sees the ins and outs of working with the kids. He needs to be his own person and show that-especially in sports
Yet, He is already a broad company man-he was so tight with THE Summer Dreamers Academy-he and Edie Wilson can be clones. Many parents are not pleased with the summer dreamers’ teaching format.
Mark R-go for it-but do not be a voice box or clone of the board.

I have plenty to say about this non-news news. But first, I scatch my head and wonder why it was even out there in the P-G. Oh well.
In due time.

PPS would benefit much from greater involvement by Mark R. It is hard to think of other parents with the same experience and commitment to sports.

What?
Never mind.
Noticed this today. Perhaps it is worthy of a posting on the main page:
Sci Tech is now with 34% girls as per the PPS web site.
Does that make sense?
Meanwhile, CAPA has 68.8% girls.
