PURE Reform has created this blog as a forum for parents, teachers and community members to share information and voice concerns regrading the reform process in the Pittsburgh Public Schools. Although we would like to foster constructive dialogue, PURE Reform does not edit content. The views expressed by bloggers in this forum are not necessarily views held by PURE Reform.

The materials would explan in greater detail, but on the televised agenda review meeting a number of changes to the location of CTE programs were mentioned.
This week's meeting had a discussion about getting students to do their homework, including remarks by the superintendent about getting parents involved in this effort. Often in the past, parents and families did not come into the discussion. Parents can be a real resource in providing students with individual help and attention, and the district is taking a step in the right direction.
At some point in the discussion of homework the issue of it being checked or used to provide feedback was mentioned. Particularly in lower grades parents can't always tell by looking if someone looked at the completed homework or not. Some marking or stamp or something should be made once homework is handed in or viewed. Severl years ago I heard Dr. Lane mention the importance of this simple step. Any parent getting active will benefit and the kids will too. I think Dr. Lane "gets" this.
I think Dr.Lane "gets" the fact that there is $40 million from Gates and $40 million in matching funds at her disposal. I don't see her making changes. And I don't see the backbone.
Normally the minutes from the legislative meeting are posted before the current month's agenda review meeting. The Dec minutes in this case are not yet posted. Could it have anything to do with the two session long meeting and having to marry the minutes or could it be a way to be done with the CFO discussion? Or it could be something simple like a new company transcribing?
being since there was a discussion about students homework in which wants parents to be involve, why not have trainig workshop in which the teachers can explain to parents what ways they can help the students via homework they send home. also establish a HOMEWORK HOTLINE if PPS don't already have one

Anon 4:57 When are they normally posted? Was Mr. Berdnik in charge of that task too? The bounced check came to mind.
Minutes as posted under pghboe.net using the OUR DISTRICT tab to the Board Minutes.
