Propel Hazelwood

My understanding was that Propel Hazelwood was approved by the state, due to inaction by the board. So it was coming, with or without the building. Again a sneak so that the old board could get more charter schools in-- Burgwin had plenty of students- as the over crowding of the receiving schools proved. This was just opportunistic because PROPEL has more friends on the board than PPS STUDENTS do-- yes it has changed-- and this board has to find ways to dig us all out.

Plus with feeder schools like Minadeo being torn apart at the seams thanks to another ineffective PELA principal there will be plenty of Hazelwood students to fill the old Burgwin building.

11:07 - Seems like you are saying that PPS cannot compete with Propel. Does that mean that PPS is in danger of losing most of its schools to Propel---one by one---at least for all students who cannot get into Sci-Tech, Dilworth, and CAPA? How many schools remain? More than 50? Right?

If we remember correctly Burgwin was beating the odds in ACHIEVEMENT when it was closed. The Principal was promoted to Central Office because she had done such a good job at Burgwin. So they closed it? What does that tell us?

Now they are going to pay how much per student? to send these students to Propel? And our PPS leaders don't think that they can provide a decent education? Why? Something is really wrong with PPS Central Office? If these administrators don't believe or don't know how to educate urban children, why are they in these positions? Who keeps on hiring people who don't know how to do what they have been hired to do? And WHY?

What is this sale of St Stephens school in Hazelwood all about? I think it may be related to Propel. What's the deal with that property? Anyone know?

St. Stephen's was to be the alternative site for Propel if the PPS Board voted down the sale of Burgwin.

Since Propel will now occupy Burgwin, not sure what or who will occupy or acquire St. Stephen's.

I've heard ramblings that St Stephen's will be renovated and converted into a Terrapin Station.

The Board did not vote within 75 days from Propel's first public hearing. Questions. Why not? Why did Board vote on January 26, 2013 after 75 days had past? There much more to this story.

Maybe admin preferred to turn hazelwood over to a charter rather than admit that closing burgwin was a bad decision.
