The lack of follow-up to this story regarding disposition and outcomes on behalf of all involved ( staff and students ) is disconcerting and begs for leadership.
Nothing new here. For years the policy has been if you are injured on the job, you must go to one of the approved medical providers for evaluation. Usually, the employee is sent back to work. If you are not getting better, then you may go to your own doctor for evaluation. Once your doctor declares your are injured, that report goes to HR. Your injury must keep you out beyond 30 days before Workman's Compensation kicks in. You must use the 30 days of sick leave first. I will admit, I can't remember if the employee is credited the 30 days or not.
If you are hurt on the job, the board will cover the cost of treatment in an ER. The employee pays the deductible. This does require a lot of paperwork to muddle through. Just as easy to say you were hurt somewhere else if you can.
This is why you as a teacher should think twice before intervening in a fight. You WILL get hurt and NOT get support. You might even find yourself on the wrong side of a critical incident report.
I got hurt many of times breaking up fights and did not seek treatment because they will only send you back to work unless you know the system like some employees in the safety department .I am a teacher and watched this police office claiming she got hurt breaking up a fight and by no means did this lady get hurt she told the young lady to stop fighting and she restrained her after she handcuffed the young lady the female police officer claimed the girl hurt her neck there is no way that could have happened the young lady stopped fighting and was not resisting .Some people like to work while others like to beat the system and get paid while sitting at home with a fake injury .There should be a investigation in to the safety department .
Speaking of HR - According to the March Board minutes, Susan Dobies-Sinicki, Assistant Director of HR, has resigned effective April 11 for personal reasons. I wonder why in April and not wait until the end of the school year?
Who is responsible for deciding if you can get comp or not? They should have some type of medical degree right? Knowing the district they are not qualified!
Shame on the principal and chief of police for not getting there staff the help they deserve! What comes around goes around!
