The district is holding him until they can find and hire a replacement.

Are the school police that handled the situation certified? If not it's not legal.

I think real police were involved. The newspaper said the violent crime unit was investigating.

Right. Shooting someone is generally not legal too.

Oh is Perry CERTIFIED SCHOOL to TEACH STUDENTS as well.
Getting back to the SHOOTING I'm pretty sure the PROPER AUTHORITIES is handling the situation those WONDERING make sure they
CERTIFIED we do not want UNCERTIFIED STAFF working for PPS especially when it comes to SPENDING 💲💲💲💲💲💲💲💲💲💲

The teachers are well certified. Just the police department have some officers that did not pass the pa state test which makes them not certified to be a police officer in pennsylvaia any where. To be a police officer you have to go through the police accademy and pass the state test also in your state that you live in to work in that state or you are not authorized to work as a police officer in that state. Which would be Pennsylvania here. The shooting I hope the city of police are handleing it because we sure do not want officers that are working illegally handleing a shooting case now do we? The city of pittsburgh make sure that their officers are qualified.

It was said that Dr. Hamlet intended to visit with the student who was shot and family.

That is the kind of leadership that is transforming.

If Dr. Hamlet is a good leader why are pps police officers working not certified and unqualified that cant even protect our children? I was at a labor day picnic and heard from a retirec officer that this has been happening since Fadzen was let go.

HAY lets back up these so call PPS POLICE OFFICERS I who are UNCERTIFIED happen way before Dr Hamlet been going on for YEARS
OK do a FACT CHECK before speaking out let's also start with HR
Make sure when applying for PPS POLICE OFFICERS they are CERTIFIED if NOT cant assume POSITION simple as that 😄

Correct 7:32-- the man is looking, listening and learning-- I feel that he will have a list by the end of the month and will then try to prioritize the issues. We all see "our own" issue the the big one. He will have to take his list and go ask alot of questions, while still keeping what is, running smoothly. Right now- the transportation/ buses/ bridge issue became the "big one"
One question I have since people here seem to have knowledge-- are there any regulations related to PPS police officers? We seem to have rules for teachers, ed asst., principals, supervisors etc-- so where can these officers rules be found?

September 11,2016 at 5:25 PM please speak English. What are you trying to say? There are facts. There are police officers working that never passed that Harrisburg state that is a must to work as a police officer. Everyone in the department knows the last 6 officers cheated through the iup academy, gossip travels fast. Everyone knows Brown failed the commander's test. Everyone knows HR never interviewed for the chief job. All the PPS has to do is call Harrisburg. For the cheating, lie detector test. If they cheated they most likely did not pass the Harrisburg test to work as a police officer. Know your facts.

There are also "administrators" in key positions at PPS that never took a course in education. There are 25,000 Pittsburgh children who depend on PPS for an education but yet those in positions of academic authority do not have training, experience or education in the areas where they are main decisions on how to educate pps students. Does anyone at HR check anything? What are the backgrounds of the people in Human Resources? How do people at PPS get the job without the necessary qualifications?
Who will track this track this and STOP the abuse ? Why do the children have to pay the price at every level?

The Superintendent is in a very tenuous position since he needs to remedy ALL of this without internal support. Hope that he can see through all of the camouflage and find the people who can help him bring PPS back to its potential.

Lets not back these so called non certified police officers the ones that are not qualified and are not police officers. Brown walks around like he is a God not a leader. He was hired not qualified! Politics! We will back the ones that are qualified. A chief of police with no leadership skills and a high school diploma is just ridiculous come on PPS!

The Westinghouse/Wilkinsburg Partnership will be an interesting model to follow closely. The infusion of leadership and support at all levels from within Wilkinsburg and PPS allows Dr. Hamlet the opportunity to look, listen and learn. Not a tenuous position for the Superintendent at all. He will come to know something. Even if it proves wrong he and all involved will have experienced and learned some courage to move into the unknown.

Vision is not always something to be credentialed.
