Nina's notes

New Post: Ninas notes. Has anyone read the new email that normally and automatically goes right to spam infamously titled "Nina's Notes"? Allow me to save you the pain: Esposito congratulates her brotherhood in Philadelphia for settling on a contract at the beginning of her email(that is after her obsequious salutation). After that, she praises them and then posts the details for immediate view. Why does she do this? Easy: Esposito wants to read what teachers are not getting in the contract in Philadelphia to use as a tool of intimidation just as Tarka did before her so teachers will not strike. Why? Easy: so that she keeps her job until she retires. Where do Esposito'schildren go or have gone to school? Answer: North Hills School District. The naivety of Esposito to post that contract and then to posrpt WAY DOWN THE PAGE- "Unfortunately I can see no path of settling our negotiations prior to June 30th". Shouldn't that have been posted first? We PAY HER SALARY! No, rather, she uses the contract not to praise Philadelphia, but to make teachers, counsellors, paras, and security guards of the Pittsburgh Public Schools think, "OOH, WE ARE SO LUCKY. SEE WHAT THEY GET IN PHILLY!" Esposito knows that we are not getting anything, such as step increases, and she knows that our medical coverages will be a disaster, and she knows she does not care about anything except about her pay and job security. What is scarier is, is if she she negotiates salary step increases. Can you imagine how she will have sold us out so she can retire in a few years and not feel the horrifying afterm

But Nina is an honorable woman.

Can anyone break this down for non-pps insiders? How will this impact class size, offerings, etc? What happens now will reach far into the future.

Break what down? Esposito is selling you out. Why do teachers ask questions that encompass normalcy. No offence because I know you are mentally abused in this district, but stop talking, ok. You want it broken down? Ok, here you are and compare this breakdown to how you feel and what you saw as of June 15, 2018. In short, you will be downtrodden, hanging onto a low proficient or a basic to unsatisfactory rating, and regretting that you sold out your soul for money(if you call that money). However, if you don't teach Math or English, no one cares about you, so go amount your job and make sure you don't do anything unethical as a teacher. Now, if you do teach Math or English, you will be required to teach three hours more a week, attend two hours more in weekly meetings(impossible to fathom),piling in as many students into your room as possible, blaming you for low PSSA or KEYSTONE, blaming you for discipline instead of their upbringing and weak administration(but now a professional on-site behavioural specialist will confirm your blame to save principal time), present you with more and more data time, making you post more data( even though no one reads it-unless you are unlinked by the Mayberry rabble), you will have no air condition or a 50% at having AC, you will have increasing moronic restorative circle time so the district and union can say that the grant was used for the circles, and to top it all off, below basic minds will be doing walk-through on you three times a month. As far as money goes, you and no other teacher will get a step increase, you will pay much more in medical, and you will be worthless as a person.

12:04, sorry to ask for an explanation as a non-pps insider. i was unaware that this blog became for teachers only but i get it now loud and clear. I happen to be Jane Q Public and hope you do not bitch-slap other parents this way. I had hoped to get a deep enough understanding to be publicly supportive of teachers. I am now concerned that teachers are so on defense that they can't read every word in a sentence before going all knee jerk. I will stay out of your business.

Well put-and we should be on the defensive- being supportive does not help when your own district works for the union.

They can't cone up with a contract for teachers, but holy hell! How many job postings have you seen come out since May? These are pretty high salary positions and there are a TON of new ones. As a teacher, I knew this was coming seeing as they had a special Hamlet message everyone had to hear right before school let out. It was clear they were going to do this. And oh, my favorite part of sitting through the message was getting the glossy colored booklet ($) that was sent over laying Hamlets new plan out, which isn't new at all, and being watched by a central person to make sure the message was delivered correctly.

Yes, they made my principal read from a script to us whole some girl from Central Office (who looked straight out of undergrad) watched her to make sure she didn't go off script. Also, this was done during one of our clerical days that we need to spend packing up our classrooms. The glossy books were a waste of money and went into the trash.

Recently, the auditor general found that PPS was sitting on a huge surplus that they "overlooked" and they touted their lack of need yo increase taxes to the post gazette. Plus, they employ enough superintendents, deputy superintendents, assistant superintendents, etc. to staff a district 10x our size. There is money and time to get us a contract. Nina's email said she doesn't know if Hamlet will approve step movement while we're in "status quo" She needs to stop asking and start telling! Tell the board she "doesn't know" if her teachers will be returning in the fall! We should be voting to authorize a strike. Hold that over their head to speed up the process. What a wimp!

She can demand a fair contract or we strike. She can go to the media about how much central office staff costs. There is public evidence in many PG articles of the district talking about how good their finances are. She has all the power here, but she is clearly working to appease them, not us. When we finally do ratify the contract, we are allowed to quit the union when or before the new one starts. I will be doing exactly that. I'm ready to sue them to be able to quit. I would not pay for such shoddy service from any other person who is working for me. This is ridiculous.

They are "working" on a new contract.

Well said. However, it's not ridiculous, it's nondisclosure of assets, which equals THEFT in the on Wall Street. Leave the union and stop paying dues. Do you hear me!Stop paying dues. Make "Go Fair Share" the battle cry. Make the union turn off the air condition on the South Side. Make the union leaders live like the teachers do: teach in rooms that are 95 degrees, teach in an apparel of sweat, collect data all day long, get cursed out daily, teach amidst a walk-through, get into circles and play "Let's Make A Deal", and for good measure, do all of this without an increase in pay. Finally, to the triumvirate of fools: Nina "Judas" Esposito, William "I don't care about displaced teachers" Heilman, and Harold "The Liar" Grant: listen carefully. Read the curriculum in whatever your field of teaching is(God help us), because you're through, or better yet, heading back into the classrooms.

No step increases are in the books. Get ready for anger, Esposito's excuses, and chaos. This will be the worst year(if that is even possible) for teachers in this-for a lack of a better word-district.
