Are victims required to participate in restorative justice?

My child was assaulted by another student. I don't want my child participating in a restorative justice process. I just want my child separated from this other child and for the school rules to be enforced. What are the parents' rights in regards to their child's nonparticipation in a restorative justice process? "

Did the school provide information on the process, or is it pretty much set to take place without consultation with parents?

When this was first presented, teachers and developmental advisers had real issues such as this. Also privacy issues. They were shot down by scripted admin. Parents should get together and resist this-- also parents should call Pittsburgh police when their children are assaulted. Know that in their hearts, teachers are on your side!

You are awesome. There's nothing to restore in this district. It's garbage. I admire you for not falling into the most pathetic excuse idea to get abominable students out of trouble. I'd get your child out of that asylum. Good for you. There's been lawsuits over this repulsive circle insanity.

If I was in your situation I would totally agree-- why should your child, a victim, lose more learning time because of an attacker-- who probably was aggrivated by something totally out of school.

As far as I know, parents of victims are not contacted about restorative processes that their child participates in. I've seen a victim opt out of participating one time because he had been humiliated in front of his peers, did not want to rehash the events in front of more adults, and did not believe that the perpetrator's heart would be changed in a restorative process. He thought he would be further harmed by a "restorative" process. The perpetrator sat out of class for a couple periods. The end.
