PURE Reform has created this blog as a forum for parents, teachers and community members to share information and voice concerns regrading the reform process in the Pittsburgh Public Schools. Although we would like to foster constructive dialogue, PURE Reform does not edit content. The views expressed by bloggers in this forum are not necessarily views held by PURE Reform.

You almost wouldn't believe it if you didn't see it in writing.
Then again, 499 other school districts review policies without issuing a press release.
I don't know what is sadder: PPS issuing a press release announcing that the school board is completing a task assigned to it by the Public School Code of 1949 as amended or the Post-Gazette printing the press release.
Its only odd if its a "press release." In some districts, in other parts of the state, we see these results being used to plan for summer programs and to plan for the next school year. In Pittsburgh, we don't see a report from A+ Schools until sometime in early November. Many parents, say they do not have this information. Even teachers say they do not have this information. If it was sent in early June by the PA Department of Education why are we not hearing about progress?
PCNC is broadcasting an interesting panel discussion on education right now.
Makes me wonder if that curriculum person that moved to Florida and mysteriously receives roughly a $70,000 contract to build the academy model was the author of the "how we" series. Been awfully quiet since.
It seems alot of people have become quiet. Maybe they are on vacation.
I don't think the woman who went to Fla. was posting the "How we..." because buyouts/payoffs/separation money/sub-contract comes with a clause to keep your mouth shut. (I mean a confidentiality clause)
Sports reform? As far as the Board is concerned, that is a dead issue - no money. Some of the elite/better student-athletes have already left the building and more are trying to get out of PPS anyway they can. Heck, Schenley/Obama or whatever it's called, waited an eternity to hire a football coach. Those players should have been conditioning awhile ago. Mike Gavlik should have been pushing HR to make the hire sooner. And then he has the audacity to challenge 2 transfers that the principals signed off on. Give me a break. If you had a child, college scholarship (athletic) material, would you keep him/her in this athletic mess?
Obama will be part of the USO football triumvirate, along with U-Prep and Sci-Tech, hence the name configuration. I know that interviews for various coaching positions seemed to have been delayed and for a while, no one really knew who was in charge, who would be named, etc. Even at this juncture, I am unsure as to who was named as head coach. I am not sure that I would blame this all on Gavlik, however.
The link is working. I am only up to page 8 and there is a proposal For the superintendent to hire a "Compliance Officer"! More upper management? This sounds like an HR job. Seriously this is out of hand.
There are very FEW, if any, people at Central Office who are competent or equipped for the job roles and responsibilities that they currently hold. It's not their fault, they many have other credible skill, but NONE for the jobs they hold. Thus, more and more positions are created, or consultants are hired. There seems to be no one who knows enough to hire the best people; and with so many ill-equipped people from out of the city, there is no real commitment to city kids. Problems compounding one another with no end in sight. It is very sad, and very disturbing to watch PPS slide away . . .

It seems like a strange time to suddenly review policies, with the district presumably short staffed and busy dealing with a financial crisis.
Well, lack of tech department is obvious! The PPS link on the PG article doesn't work!
Didn't the article say the link would be ready on Tuesday? But then, why not wait until Tuesday to announce it.

Does the School Code say anything about how often the task should be done? Maybe this is a project to give a PELA or Broad intern something to do.
That is a really odd press release, not sure what the purpose is.

Where is part X of "How we got where we ?are...?" Did the person posting get identified and "terminated"

On vacation here.
There are a few sports reform policies in the bundle, so we were led to think.
Let me know when the page goes live.
Mark,
Sports reform? As far as the Board is concerned, that is a dead issue - no money. Some of the elite/better student-athletes have already left the building and more are trying to get out of PPS anyway they can. Is this a football coach for the 2011-2012 school year? Does Obama have a football team for 2011-2012?

I am afraid to read more.
