Environmental Charter School expandng to 2 buildings

From the PG:

Some great things can be done with buildings PPS viewed as surplus. Here's a description of the Park Place building the school will use:

"...it's a beautiful building, glorious inside, with marble and large stairwells and stained glass windows."

A bit of serendipity for an environmentally based school is an inscription in the stained glass: "Nature finds all children something to do.""

The rental of Columbus is quite festive. The popcorn ceilings in that building, now vacant for a spell, contain asbestos fibers. It will be interesting to see how it holds up having not been run as an operating building for five years.

Who is renting Columbus?

Propel, for one year at 10,000 per month to PPS as a result of last month's Legislative Meeting. How did you miss the controversy over this?

The charters mentioned in this thread are good ones. If I had it to do all over again with my kids I would have loved for an Environmental Charter to have been an option.

When I see articles like this one I have to make it my mission to say NOT ALL CHARTERS are good. There is not enough oversight during the term (5 years) of operation between approvals. Oay attention parents. Also...

Jack Wagner is working on reforming cyber charter funding and it is an effort that deserves the support of Pennsylvanians. The graduation rates of cybers are so poor they should have to refund the state for every kid who does not pass the grad test.

I think Randall Taylor and the Westinghouse Alumni Assoc. should create a charter school in Homewood. Is there a building available?

To Purereform: I a the ticked off person who wrote the blog about demanding accountability of the Board and Administrators at the Board on 6/30/2011 at 1:08am. Did you edit my comments because there a
was more demands included in my comments that I think the public should have heard like the following that I hope will not be edited:
1. I requested that the Board should be required to do a full accounting of every expenditure which includes all contracts that have been given for the past 7 years;
2. I want to know if the Board and administrators have to disclose their affiliation with any of the contractors who are getting these contracts from the BOE? Are there standards of conduct rules applicable to the Board and it's staff?

I point this out because of the following example:
I questioned Ira Weiss' (Solicitor for the Board) ability to send contracts for legal work to his own law firm?

Lisa Fischetti's giving a $350,000 contract to her previous employer for work that should have been handled by her department which is suppose to be the Marketing Dept? There is evidence that she routinely hands out large contracts to friends and business acquaintances at will;

I demanded that Mark Roosevelt's contract be provided to Board Member Mark Brently as requested on June 22,2011.

I made some critical statements about Tom Sumpter, being a disapointment to his district because he rolled over on the Schenley High closing while Bill Isler can put over 8+ million, plus who knows how much in cost overrun dollars, in Colfax Elementary in Squirrel Hill with absolutely NO PROBLEM or objection from the other board members. Mr.Roosevelt and the Board brokered a deal with UPMC to get the building regardless of the whether there was asbestos in the building or not; The school was a high performing school that was tossed to the dogs and it sits vacant!
What about all of the back room deals that are made outside the public's eye?.
This is a public entity that is using tax payer dollars and is subject to the Sunshine Act/Laws. YOU CAN NOT HIDE BEHIND THESE UNDERHANDED DEALS BEING CLASSIFIED AS PERSONAL MATTERS.
If I have raised some sensitive issues thaT
is alluding questions of fraud being perpetrated on the public, too bad and if you are legally in the right whats the problem with TRANSPARENCY?
