Interesting plan for Detroit schools

From the NYT, money will be saved in an unusual way:

"The system will not have a school board or a central administration. Principals will be in charge of hiring teachers, and they and their staffs will handle day-to-day operations."

DETROIT SCHOOLS!!!!!! Why is anyone concerned with the Detroit School District. Employees throughout the Pittsburgh School District were informed that they must be in their offices tomorrow morning by 8 am and must stay there until notifyed differently. I have checked newspapers, Board websites and nothing. There are many people, your neighbors, whose livlihood is at risk and not one bit of news about it. I guess Detroits Plans are more important than my utility bills. Thank You once again to the Board and their lackeys at the new outlets.

The plan for Detroit schools is interesting because despite a grave fiscal crisis they are finding a way to cut down on administrative costs to save schools and keep teachers in classes.

Michigan is being run by martial law.

Robert Bobb is in charge of Detroit schools...guess what? Another Broad!

By the way why were the 3 IT Director positions yanked from the PPS site yesterday?

Are these employees at Bellefield or across the district? Any idea what is behind this?

You mean none of you watched the two hour report about Detroit schools last month on Dan Rather Reports on HDNET???
We can take solace that Pittsburgh has nothing on the corruption and theft that has been perpetrated in Detroit. I mean, $43 million just disappeared from the books. The patronage behind hirings and contract awards there has been incredible, and the budget is a billion dollars a year.
The kids have suffered greatly, and what has taken place there in schools is revolting.
But the insult from PPS comes from bringing in Michelle Rhee to speak about anything.
Michelle, I wish you and yours nothing but the worst. You are the epitome of a know it all who has cost hundreds their jobs. I hope that karma finds you and yours.

Maybe under the new Detroit plan- there will be more accountability about where the money goes. It's harder to hide items in the budget of a single school with one person clearly responsible.

Anonymous 4:27's post stirs worry but tomorrow will come soon. If we wanted to speculate we might say the the timing of Mr. Tarks's resignation may be explained by tomorrow's action, if any. That the directive to report and stay until notified otherwise comes on a day when there is an executive session followed by a legislative meeting.

We have been hearing for weeks now that there would be widespread job termination on June 22.

I am afraid the least deserving and capable in administration will be the only ones staying.

The IT jobs were all Bellefield.
