Wow, how doesn't this make headlines? I watch the news and saw nothing.

Anonymous said...

Because no one will talk to reporters who want to write stories about U Prep. (See every other post about U Prep) help has been offered again and again. No one from central office or the board or any community group will do anything. The parent, teachers, and students need to talk to the reporters. They are permitting this to continue by remaining silent.

Anonymous said...

The PPS BOARD and Central Office goal is to promote PPS. It is not good promotion or PR to let any bad news get out

Seems like they think if you cover it up it will go away.

Are they right?

ONE DAY SOON MILLIONES UPREP WILL AGAIN BECOME A PLACE THAT WILL MAKE THE HILL PROUD!

PPS, HDEC, and the COMMUNITY WILL MAKE IT HAPPEN!

Anonymous said...

Look what happened to Schenley.

Questioner said...

Yes, the neighbors who didn't want HS kids from other areas coming into their hood won out. Who has more clout, Schenley Farms homeowners or kids from the Hill, Garfield, etc.

Mr Hardy had a luncheon for the employees on Friday after all the teachers ate he then called the custodians and security to eat. I guess they are peasants! He said they had to eat last! We felt so sorry for them. They were all pushed away for last! What kind of man does that to a human being?

Anonymous said...

Wow! He had a luncheon and had all employees there and you criticize. You are a prime example of "overkill." You should be ashamed.

Anonymous said...

What's the plan 2:57?

Anonymous said...

To: February 14, 2015 at 6:58 PM

You are wrong! He called the teachers to eat first then after they all ate (if any was left) then Hardy called the custodian and security to eat. Because the last luncheon they ran out of food! Know the facts please! A luncheon for all that we deal with . We should have one every Friday! It was disgusting to do to a human being! We felt terrible for them. Just terrible!

Anonymous said...

To: February 14, 2015 at 6:58 PM

BY THE WAY THE TAX PAYERS PAID FOR THE LUNCHEON! THEY SPEND THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS ON ORDERING FOOD AT UPREP!!!!!

Anonymous said...

They didn't order enough food. It can happen to anyone. You may have legitimate gripes but that criticism is ridiculous.

Anonymous said...

February 14, 2015 at 8:14

I call security all the time for help and they always help me and the custodians scrub our toilets. In my opinion they should had ate first! Shame on Hardy!

tO: February 14, 2015 at 8:14 PM

PLEASE KNOW CRITICISM FROM FACTS! THEY WATCHED US EAT!

Anonymous said...

Enough with the luncheon! We have bullets in our halls, shootings outside and a boy charged with raping a student in the school unattended in a classroom.

February 14, 2015 at 8:14 PM Now do you find that ridiculous or a serious problem! You are the overkill!

Anonymous said...

Scroll back to 2:57PM:"ONE DAY SOON..."
HOW ? WHAT IS THE PLAN ? ( in CAPS LOCK PLEASE )

Anonymous said...

Where are the security when the rape occurred ,where we're security when the bullet got passed them at the medal detectors I think they should be investigated for not doing there jobs. If they are more present in the halls stuff like this wouldn't happen.

Anonymous said...

I do have to stick up for our security. The district took one security guard to another school and now three security guards do five floors. Every time I have ever called they showed quickly. Bullets can fit in bras and under wear. They are not superman and superwoman. We thank them! Good job uprep security!

Anonymous said...

5:45
It's not fair to blame security for being spread too thin. What about blaming the students who commit these crimes? Hold them accountable. Is the presence of security the only thing stopping students from raping each other and smuggling bullets into schools? So other PPS schools that didn't have rapes or bullets last week were because they had better security? We need to hold the students accountable for their actions as well.

Anonymous said...

They don't blame students, they buy them pizza. I have to believe that these same incidents happen all over the district. Rape in school while not commonplace, does happen. We just don't get to hear about it. As for bullets in bras, a bullet does no harm without the gun. Which has enough metal to set off the detectors. Knives in bras, now there is your problem. What happens in a school where the woman security is off for the day? Who is going to check? Not me!

Anonymous said...

10:15,

You are correct that a bullet does no harm without a gun.

But it is very easy to smuggle bullets and guns into a school.

Here are two ways (and I'm not just guessing here, both have happened in the PPS).

One, stash a gun near the school. Then pick it up and take it inside after a fire drill.

Two, arrange for an accomplice to be outside classroom window at a certain time. Then when the teacher isn't looking, or is otherwise distracted, pass a gun through the window.

Yes, that has happened. But you'll never hear about it in the media, because the media will not report an anti-PPS story unless they are absolutely forced to.

Anonymous said...

The goings on at Milliones Uprep may not be covered by the media but surely the community and HDEC are well aware of what is happening in it's neighborhood. They live there! Absent any rigorous debate, urgency and accountability within these groups and those in positions of power at PPS the " One day soon..." scenario is with out any substance.

Anonymous said...

I have read all these postings and I am not surprised at what I have read. Are you really surprised that Hardy had the custodians eat last? Teachers appreciation? No it is staff appreciate! Da! Teachers are not what they used to be. Bullets? Hello people three uprep students have been murdered in a year! If a student wants to get a weapon in its called in the bra or under wear or outside a door! Cant they smuggle heroin in their socks. Wake up people!

Anonymous said...

Like many posters have mentioned it is easy to stash a weapon outside and get it into building later. In one building I worked in, kids would hide knives on playground because they only came through metal detectors in morning. They would pick up knives at recess, then come back in off playground and not have to go through detectors again.

As for the bullets, I would have to think it would amount to a lesser charge to be caught sneaking an UNLOADED gun into a school. Bringing in the bullets separately and in advance, allows the person to bring in a unloaded weapon that can be loaded once in the building. This poses less of a threat to the person bringing the gun in, because if they do get caught with an unloaded weapon they will get a slap on the wrist. Our kids are that clever and that determined to concoct these types of schemes. Like I said before, students exploited the security weakness at my previous school and were smuggling knives in by the 2nd week of school, and this was a K-8!

Questioner said...

WHy would they smuggle knives in? It's not like they actually use them while in school. Is it in case they need to protect themselves- do they feel that threatened?

Anonymous said...

Anyone who enters feels threatened. I dare anyone to partake in a day's journey in that horrible, horrible place.

Anonymous said...

10:43
At the school I taught in where they smuggled knives in, they used them in fights with other students. Not because they felt threatened, but to threaten others.

There were also numerous sexual molestations involving middle school boys and much younger boys and girls. Also one rape, that was a little blurb on the news, in which they reported the story and interviewed a parent standing by who stated "I don't believe that girl was raped" The only reason it got out to the news was the girl got on the bus crying and told the bus driver what happened and the bus driver called 911. It was shut down from the media pretty quickly. The school was King during the ALA years. So much is covered up is it mind boggling. After the rape, teachers were called to a meeting to be told not to talk to the media.

The real sad thing here is these kids. They clearly demonstrate they have the ability to think. They have the ability to solve problems. They have the ability to learn.
These students can learn whatever they want. The problem is, they don't want math, science and English. While this is not true of all kids, most kids, or many kids. It is true of a few kids.
When these "non-learners" refuse to get with their future, don't treat them to pizza, GET RID OF THEM!
Put them in a last chance program with no extras. Core program only. When they don't comply, out the door for good. Please don't cry for these few kids. They don't want your tears. They don't want your love or your care. They just want the streets. All school does for them is provide a warm place to sleep during the day and a lunch.
God bless us, God bless us all.

Three questions:
1) How is Mr. Hardy still principal?
2)How is UPrep chartered?
3)Will Dr. Lane show up to UPrep when it finally goes to the point of no return?
Answers to all three questions:
1) Miracles do exist
3) Administration gave the state a big pizza party
2) Dr. Lane will have her chauffeur drive around to the back door(where all are welcome)

If it is as clearly and obviously dangerous as 11:13 reports, so dangerous that anyone who walks in there feels threatened, then how are students still being sent there? By their own parents? My parents would have to be on medication if I tried to get a teaching job in that building, they would be so sick with worry!

How are people still sending there children there? Clearly PPS is not going to fix this school. They simply don't care and they know that absolutely NO ONE from inside the school or community is going to call them on it! A reporter was begging to out the place to the public with no response. Yet these ,"boo hoo, poor u prep" stories continue.
If it is that unsafe, then any parent who enters should sense that immediately. Who continues to knowingly send their child into such a dangerous environment?

Whether is right or wrong for PPS to allow u prep to function as it is, is moot. As long as they can ignore the problem and count on the silence of the community, they could care less.
No parents would talk to the reporter and they continue to send their children into this allegedly, wildly unsafe environment. I just don't get it. By now, how can any parent of a child there not know the reputation? And I would have to think that the patent of any student enrolled there has visited the building at some point.
So how do you enter an environment that anyone can sense is immediately dangerous, as is written in these posts, and continue to send your children there, day after day?
I'm not agreeing that it is fair or right that anyone should have to move and not be able to use their neighborhood school, because it's not fair or right. But when you child's life is at risk, how does anything take precedence over packing up and moving to a new neighborhood with a safe school ASAP! There should truly be no children left in that building.

And before you argue that "I shouldn't have to move for my child to have a safe school" think about what you are saying! You are agreeing and allowing your child's life to be at risk, because you "shouldn't have to do something unfair" Well guess what? That is what parents do! Risk anything, do anything, sacrifice anything to keep their child from knowing any kind of suffering! If more parents thought and behaved that way, the school would be vacant!

You can live anywhere you want. You are choosing a dangerous school and choosing to do nothing about it. PPS does not care about your child, they care about PR. But you are the parent, it is your job to keep them safe. Put your child in a safe school.

In an age of youtube, video, gopro, cellphone cameras, caught on cameras and a plethora of social media means with which to go public.... the excuse is PPS's PR machine ?

Put a camera on the Pizza delivery man______ just sayin.

Annon 6:42 AM, you bring up an interesting point. So many kids are taking videos in school. Fights, class disruptions etc... Why don't we see any of this from U-Prep students? Please don't tell me Hardy has such control over them that there are no videos to see.
If any parent has seen these, show them to the rest of us. A lot of the tales from this place would be hard to refute if there were video.

Your frustrations with Mr. Hardy are well noted in this blog. However as has also been well noted , Mr. Hardy is protected by the sane shield afforded to Linda Lane and others in position of power within PPS. The leaders in this small black community will not speak out against their Black brothers and sisters. They are blanketed by a code of silence and the layers are many. The generations of Black children will continue to be underserved until someone is able to move beyond blood ties and peal away the layers.

Anonymous said...

Could not, should not, would not the entire Black community UNITE on behalf of the children?

That would INCLUDE Mr. Hardy and Dr. Lane!

Behind closed doors the problem could, would and should be solved on behalf of the children, the best selves in all of those children. They are children! They NOT to be blamed here!
This could be solved overnight with an understanding of the problem and real solutions that are available!
Many of those who are part of the solution are already in the building doing great work! There are just not enough! Also, too many are missing key elements that need to be a part of that solution and there are more than a few parts!
People do not all have the same strengths and while they are using the strengths they have to the utmost, there is no substitute for the needed strengths that are missing! Those who are there and see what is missing must UNITE in an effort to pull it all together as a TEAM rather than by title.

It will take more than one so-called leader!!!

It's not just black children that are being under served. There are also white students in that school, and believe me, they are being under served also, along with hundreds of teachers, white and black, who have been under served, demoralized, and cast out of their profession by [NAME CALLING DELETED], Hardy. Yet, he is allowed to go on because he is black? Take note: millions of WHITE PEOPLE voted for Obama. That is the only way he could win. If anyone is protecting that nerd, Hardy, because he is black, then UPrep is just what the doctor ordered for that disease."

10:01- There are many caring, committed individuals on the front lines serving the children every day and in every way. They do not need to be defended. They are not being maligned. To diminish the role of singular Leadership in any reform places those who you seek to serve at a disadvantage. You have only to look back on History.
The irony is breath-taking when you consider the Black leadership in position of power at PPS and the complete failure to educate children not alone Black children.

If MLK were at the helm of PPS would it take more than him as Leader?
Yes ____ that question is for you 10:01
Born leaders lead and the front lines serve with pleasure.

10:01

Generally Leaders know what is needed and the people unite;they sign up and sign on and reform happens!...no matter all the varied parts.

Anonymous said...

Having taught in the Hill District for 25 years, I can tell you that community groups, churches, parents, etc. will NOT
speak up against a black principal and black superintendent no matter what happens. That is something I observed over and over again, year after year. It hasn't changed.

Anonymous said...

"Could not, should not, would not the entire Black community UNITE on behalf of the children"?

Under the Leadership of WHO?

Anonymous said...

11:58 - Simple common sense should tell us that:

Reform cannot happen without the knowledge and the skill to put in place the "varied parts."

Anonymous said...

Is it a rule, a law, or common acceptance that if you are black and get hired you cannot be fired?
If the Hill district community wants to leave a principal in just because he is black, then the Hill District gets what they deserve: Mr. Hardy.

Anonymous said...

Yes 1:40, you make the case for Leadership, the missing part in all the "varied" parts. The knowledge and skill to guide and lead all the varied parts to successful reform.
Common sense to have someone leading the TEAM.

It would be hard to find a Hill leader who sends their child to U Prep.

This is not just happening at Uprep. Westinghouse has the same problem why doesnt this get pointed out

The district needs to look at the food receipts at UPREP. They order pizza for the kids and when they do they order food for everyone in their click! I heard the security guard that works on the middle school floor say that she has to stay on the middle schools Administrations good side because he buys her lunches with district money. Only pizza should be ordered not salads and chicken wings for the staff in the click. The Administration have their favorites that they take care of.

Anonymous said...

I do know about the food that they order for certain staff members! Then those staff members talk behind their backs! They order food for their favorite employees. UPREP is a hot mess! Employees ordering food with district money, changing grades, teachers getting hurt, three deans three security guards, one police officer and two administrators and it is still out of control. Selling donuts on Wednesdays and nachos on Fridays and a candy store open during lunches. Their is no control! Their are two teachers hurt in a month and one teacher needs surgery!

Anonymous said...

UPREP has ruined my life! I am attending counseling right now from the harassment from Mr. Hardy and the students. The place is a zoo! The people have their clicks and the staff are so damaged from the administration doing nothing. They act like Gods and are a mess! UPREP has cause harm to a lot of staff and decent kids that are begging to leave that are denied!

Anonymous said...

The kids get Pizza Friday. Lets see how many extra meals they order for the staff in the click with tax payers money! Then they eat it in front of everyone not in the click. Dysfunctional click that is!The staff talk behind the admins backs and get free meals. One Security guard always talks about someone being gay and she get a free lunch. Must be nice!
