Genuine community input for Superintendent search

"New Post Please:

It is the goal of Great Public Schools (GPS) to support the Pittsburgh Public School Board's desire for genuine community input in the process of recruiting the next Superintendent. We believe that the engagement of parents, students, teachers, and community members requires that those participants are treated as democratically as possible. When all voices are given space to participate in the conversation, we get the richest dialogue possible.

As a first step, GPS is hosting a city-wide community engagement meeting to gather input to inform the superintendent search in a way that engages everyone on the same level, regardless of their perceived status.

School Board Members WILL NOT ATTEND!

Tonight the PSSA Results will be presented by Dr. Donna Micheaux
at the EDUCATION MEETING chaired by Dr. REGINA HOLLEY
(See PPS website.)

This Meeting was originally scheduled for tomorrow night (Tuesday)
but was precipitously changed last Friday!

Will PPS results presented tonight be the same as those posted on September 29th
on the Pa Department of Education Website under PSSA information?????

PPS Board Members cannot attend the PIIN meeting because there is a Business & Finance Meeting AND an EDUCATION MEETING TONIGHT chaired by Dr. Regina Holley. The School Performance DATA for 2015 will be presented by Donna Micheaux.

Are PIIN and GPS the same organizations?

Are both PIIN and GPS SUPERINTENDENT SEARCH meetings on October 22nd at Sci-Tech?

If all of the School Board members do not attend the "genuine community input" meeting to inform in the search for Superintendent then the consideration and engagement of the community is less than genuine.

Only two Board Members attended the A+ Schools Superintendent Search session last week. But then the opportunity for community input was very minimal. Nothing could be said aloud nor was anything submitted in writing and about half of those attending had cell phones for input on formatted questions. No dialogue, no questions, no comments except in small groups?

Also, selecting a Superintendent requires a different process than selecting a Police Chief.

I can just hear the ghost of Mark Roosevelt somewhere in the hallowed halls of the administration building:

"Have a few meetings. Let them have their say. We'll do what we want, anyway."

It worked for him. It's worked for Lane.

Pure and simple, we need someone who KNOWS what is required for a good education in PA--preferably someone who is committed to Pittsburgh students. We need and EDUCATOR that will be successful with urban children in an urban district.

The BEST choice will be a Pittsburgher who understands what it takes to educate our most underachieving students and makes it happen!

Up close personally and professionally, the most impressive educator in Pittsburgh Public School, Dr.WAYNE WALTERS, is most qualified for SUPERINTENDENT.

Who do you have in mind 11:36? Names please? Pure and simple.

We need someone with direct experience and success in the most challenging schools- ie, comparable to Westinghouse or U Prep.

Dr. Wayne Walters, pure and simple, 8:04.

Also, prior experience as a superintendent in a smaller district before taking on a huge (half a billion dollar per year) enterprise should be an absolute requirement.

Here's hoping - 11:27 - your voice participated in the conversation desired by PPS for genuine community input.
