Are Security Officers in great need for support from district?"

Yes! They are! They are doing way more than they should be because of the demand of the administrators and because they are under staffed big time! People argue that they are not under paid! But, yes they are! They put themselves in harms way with zero support from their chief nor the district! You can not look at a certain number of kids per security officer any more! That is no longer safe! These Officers are putting their safety online with no respect! The administrators are terrible and the security are drained! Instead of the district helping them they just give them more problems to clean up! Security are the foundation of the safety so the students can learn! They have the repore with the violent student that is not medicated or the student that was molested her entire childhood! It is time to realize the SECURITY OFFICERS worth!

The administrator is suppose to manage a building! Not the Security Officers! What are the administrators getting paid $100,000 for?

Anonymous said...

I want to know who took security out of high schools and replaced them with a police officer that does not do anything to help the school except make reports or cuff a kid after the security officer rolled on the floor with the kid? Please put the security back into the building please! The security are in need for more help!!! The police officers received a raise and the security received nothing! Why? The police officers are not the ones that make a difference in the schools!!! Where are the security officers respect??? No, you can no longer put one security officer to three hundred students!!!!!!!! The problems are too big now and they are under staffed!!!!!! The kids are mentally ill! The Security Officers do all the work in the department without a doubt! When the police come around they act like they are in control when the Security do all the work. That is a huge lack of respect! The good security officers are leaving! The problems are huge in the schools and did bringing police in the schools make a difference lol???

Anonymous said...

I want the district to check with Harrisburg and see that few of the Police Officer are even certified! They never passed the test to become a certified POLICE OFFICER!

Anonymous said...

Gossip is that the Pittsburgh Public School Police Officers are cheating their way through the IUP police academy with disks with answers to all the test! They need to look into this matter!

Anonymous said...

You mean to tell me that Security do all the work and the Police received a raise and they are not even certified police officers and the gossip is that they are cheating at the IUP CMU POLICE ACADEMY with disk that were made? Sounds like things are backwards! That is the PPS for you! Sounds like the PPS need to get rid of the corrupt school police force and make it a security force and call the city police if courts need to be involved.

Anonymous said...

7:27,

The PPS will never get rid of the school police, and for one simple reason. The PPS central administrators control the school police like puppets on a string. Crime statistics get buried, assault reports get changed, etc. etc.

But the central administrators cannot control the city police. So the city police are not welcome in the schools, except in an extreme emergency. And a PPS employee can get into big, trouble for calling the city police for help instead of the school police.

Anonymous said...

Gossip, cheating, these are pretty bold statements. I know of only one former pps police that became an officer for the city. My understanding is they will not hire pps police not because of qualifications or certifications. Instead, they are not considered due to the fact that they are willing to do the job without carrying a firearm. For this reason, they are considered to be mentally unfit. (Not to be confused with crazy, unbalanced, nuts...)
I have known many security and police. I have always considered them to be among the best. When the chips are down and you are on the bottom of the pile, you feel a great relief when you see one show up. Ever spend a day in court with a PPS police? I have. They are not crazy, lazy of anything else. Just worn out like the rest of us.

Anonymous said...

LOl, the school police do not carry guns correct! They deal with kids after the security officer handles the situation! The city police deal with real issues, not show up after a security officer just handled the entire dangerous situation!!!!

Anonymous said...

Gossip is also that the current chief of police failed the commanders test and was still given the position and then he only has a high school education so the pps changed it to you no longer needed a college education to run an entire police dept lol really!!! I would like to know who did that and why it was approved it! So a man with a high school education is telling an entire department what they need to do!!! This is why the pps has become a failure!!! Let the department vote on a chief!!! That would make too much sense right???!!! The chief makes $95,000 a year with a high school diploma and the entire department is UNHAPPY, MISERABLE, DISFUNCTIONAL!!!

Anonymous said...

Anon 6:32 just be happy to have a job if you do your job no one complains and speak only for your self and not the pps police or security because most I spoke to like there jobs and benefits

Anonymous said...

Lol the security like being used is abused Anon 6:32 and have a terrible uneducated chief and the pps does not back them at all and they are the foundation of the safety in the entire district? Everyone is complaining where have you been on the moon? Benefits, they need benefits being physically and emotionally abused in the schools. Sorry, your not a very nice person! These guards work hard! Yes, in fact very hard! The support for them is beyond terrible! BEYOND! People sit on their rears and make $95,000 in our department while the security work for every single benefit and cent they make! Their is no need for a police department when the security do it all! Oh I forgot the police interact after the security guard who is making a salary with benefits handles the entire situation and the police take a report oh wow! The city police are what are real police! They do not have security guards that get sworn at, hit and do every single thing for them! Give me a break!

Anonymous said...

I agree that the security do all the work and the pps under pay them big time compared to what they pay the school police. I think that the security should not do as much as they do because they do way to much for as many mentally kids they deal with. The school police that are in the buildings do not answer calls or break up fights when the security are there. They basically take a report. If they are not all state certified and are cheating through the IUP CMU academy they should be fired. From what I am told by security is that there is one security guard per 300 students. Is the PPS crazy? Do you know how many mentally ill students they deal with on a daily basis? You should have at least 2 security officers per 300 students! Two per floor! The police are not needed they do not act like real police and they have zero respect from the kids. They are no help in fights and riots. They stand around and watch the security handle everything! I do agree that the PPS should get rid of the police dept and just have a security dept and call the city police for assistance when a report is needed. This way it is done professional by certified police that passed the police test and are actually real police officers. When there are fights the security are there within minutes and resolve the situation. They deserve every cent and insurance that they get. I see the security freezing during the football games in the stands not the police. Yes, security is under paid and if the PPS had the security in control things would change in a huge positive direction. They keep telling the security that they are the top paid in the state. All that says is that the others are way under paid and are they as good as the PPS security are. I know a few bad security but over all the rest are excellent and professional. They are mistreated big time by the police department when they are around. This is why they are not needed they are unprofessional and need to recognize that the security are the protectors. As gossip goes the security never cheated on test nor failed test to be a certified police officer and still remain on the PPS police force. The PPS will ignore all this as usual and the police dept will get worse. The police dept is extremely political. It you are liked you are at an easier school when they should have security apply for schools by seniority and done right. Get rid of the politics and do everything by seniority. The new security will have their seniority some day. You earn your seniority by putting in time and work. But ofcourse the politics will continue to ruin the PPS's.

Anonymous said...

Why do the security work so hard all school year and laid off in the summer months with zero pay while the school police still work and get paid? The Security should still secure the buildings and call 911 if an emergency happens. The security do a great job serving the pps district. Why do that to them. I know that they suffer financially in the summer months. The more you make the more the government takes and they work so hard. They do not deserve such treatment in my opinion. The security can not collect unemployment. Why do that to people that do such a great service for the schools? Shame on them.

Anonymous said...

These poor guards that protect us all year when they complain are just told be thankful for your job. How about being thankful because it takes a special person to do there job! I sure would not want it! Treat them right and reward them quit treating them like they are not important because they are who we rely on and they do not let us down. Why do the entire police department work all year and the security are let go for two months with zero pay and can not collect unemployment. It does not make any sense.

December 30, 2015 at 8:14 PM

The pps is failing, do you really thing anything they say makes sense? NO! The police are not certified not because they do not carry firearms it is because they can not pass the test and just cheated through the IUP police academy with a disk that they pass from one another. Just give them a lie detector test. Why do they need guns? They have security that handle the entire situation before they get to the location. The only reason security call them is because they need them to do the paper work to prosecute the kids. Kids I said! The police are worn out you say? Going to a school after security have everything under control for them to take a report is over worked exhausted? Now that was funny! The pps is failing because of politics! The chief of the safety dept is great at playing politics so he does not have to lift a finger and make $95,000 a year. The school police are uneducated and lazy in my opinion. They are not needed and are wasting tax payers money. What kind of police officer is not certified? They can not even past a test why in the heck should they carry a gun. We have city police that have guns and as you see they are at the football games and basketball games now so why do we have a pps police dept? One security guard per floor is a joke mean while one per middle school! Set up for failure!

Anonymous said...

OMG! Are all of the highly paid OFFICIALS at pps NOT certified? Wouldn't it be interesting--to say the least--to really know WHO IS CERTIFIED? and who is NOT? Is every thing about pps a false front?

Anonymous said...

Anon 7:40 if you do not like what the chief is doing tell him and stop speaking for the pps safety department and let's see where that gets you most if not all likes there jobs and yes security is off for 2 months if you do yor money rite you should be able to afford to be off unless you have child support or something else who cares lol get a second job .all you guys do is complain on here about the chief he worked his way up the ranks you wouldn't complain if the shoe was on the other foot and if you were the chief or your friend was and why would he reward a security guard a good school do to sienority ,the reason why he has the security where there at is do to he knows who works and who dosent so you must be one of the ones who don't do there jobs and always complaining .

Anonymous said...

I am so thankful I have a job and the police officer in my building helps to break up fights so whoever is complaining about the pps police not helping he or she must not like you or respect you or you complained on him or her

Anonymous said...

Anon 7:40 it is right and capitalize after your periods. I will pay you zero attention but thanks for your impute! The Chief failed the Commanders test and because of politics he still became the Commander, no ranks! No the Police Officers absolutely do nothing in the buildings January 2, 2016 at 4:19 PM, So your either the Chief or a Police Officer that cheated at the IUP CMU Police Academy to get through. What is up with your run on sentences and no periods where they belong? Should I listen to you? Someone on here said that the School Police were crazy enough not to carry guns, well then what about the Security Officers that are in the schools daily? The Security Officers work hard and are laid off like they mean nothing to the PPS! The Security Officers are getting smarter and tired off it all. Mark Williams passed the Commanders test and is college educated, he was the right man for the job! The truth, that the PPS do not need a Police Department! Say your lies how they are needed but, they are NOT!

Anonymous said...

Sorry gossip says the Chief failed the Commanders test and because of politics was still given the position. You tell the Security to manage their money, thanks for the support appreciate it! Most Security are on one income. So, how do you expect them to manage their money with kids to provide for? The Security should be the ones working in the summer because they have earned it all year. Security are tired of being used and will no longer take the abuse.

Excellence begets excellence. Always has and always will.
PPS has not embraced a culture of excellence for quite sometime.

It follows that projecting the appearance of excellence becomes the 'standard' and basic skills are the bar to be met( whether it be in personnel or student achievement ).

A superintendent of schools must live and breathe 'excellence'.

Here's hoping the superintendent search can recognize excellence when it sees it.

Anonymous said...

True, 7:18, so true!! - "Excellence" may be the one good reason for an outside consultant. Right now, there is no one at Central Office that can "recognize excellence". Or, if they suspect that "excellence" might be popping up somewhere, it is quickly extinguished. Can't have those who know little and are paying for PR be outclassed in any way shape or form.

It is time to define "excellence" in no uncertain terms---producing quality---with advanced proficiency for ALL students, not just very few who are defying the odds by getting the type of external support needed. The internal PPS system and personnel must be those who are "excellent" in their areas of expertise, qualifications, and detailed job descriptions and expectations.

Anonymous said...

What are 10 "must haves" for "excellence" in a Superintendent for a large, urban, Pennsylvania district?

Can Board Members contribute, solicit, and agree upon at least 10 "must haves" for this Superintendent Search?

How about "bloggers" contributing their top three here polling, so-to-speak, a consensus of sorts?

Anonymous said...

An EDUCATOR who has demonstrated successful command (with accountability) for 1) a large, 2) urban, and 3) Pennsylvania district might just cover the first three "must have" for 1:18.

Large, urban and Pennsylvania are the characteristics most ignored by the current PPS CO administration. (No skills at all for those dimensions!)

Anonymous said...

ALL SECURITY PLEASE READ:

The district wants to under pay security, not support them and lay them off in the summer? Okay, no problem you will start getting back what you put into them starting now! That starts now! Security is done doing any extras like they have been! All security that is reading this, STOP doing any extras for this district! Stop getting hurt and stop putting yourself into riots where you will get physically hurt! A riot is more than two kids! IF THE SITUATION GETS PHYSICAL CALL THE SCHOOL POLICE THEY MAKE MORE AND DO NOT GET LAID OFF IN THE SUMMERS! STOP!!!!! STOP GETTING HURT FOR A DISTRICT THAT DOES NOT CARE ABOUT YOU! We all know the chief and commander do not back us, so let them start working too! Starting today go to work and clear the hallway and break up fights when only two kids are fighting. Do not solve the teachers problems in the classrooms any longer!!! CALL SCHOOL POLICE FROM NOW ON! STOP DOING THEIR WORK FOR THEM! JUST DO A SECURITY GUARDS JOB!

Must haves for excellence in Leadership:

Watchful

Alert

Courteous

Yielding

Simplicity

Someone who can wait quietly while the mud settles.

One who can remain still until the moment of action.

Who does not trust enough will not be trusted.

Anonymous said...

He achieves what has to be done without dwelling on it.

He does not try to show his knowledge.

Has self-respect but is not arrogant.

A good employer is humble.

Anonymous said...

Does "Leadership" for education need any knowledge or skills or experience related to schools or students or teachers?

Or will the eight wonderful qualities proposed by 5;57 be enough to lead in a large, urban, PA district to students graduating ready for success at college or careers? Or is there a chance that "trust' will take care of the challenges w/o skills, knowledge or experience?

How will the "Search" people ensure that these qualities are firmly in place with any candidate?

Anonymous said...

Of course to question #1

Last question- the search people need to be intuitive and have a feel for the right candidate.

Anonymous said...

The training they give the security officers is a complete joke!

Anonymous said...

Annon 2:07 has indicated that security get laid off in the summer. If this is true, then they get unemployment. I am not sure are they actually laid off? I do remember that many security also work the summer school programs. Do they still have summer school?
I know that many cafeteria workers used to be hired on as supplemental cleaners during the summer break. This way, they did not have to sign up for unemployment and it boosted their retirement. Are any of these options available to security.
I am still disappointed to hear "rumors" of cheating and school police being un-certified. Their badges are issued when they are sworn in as police officers along side of regular police, PAT and CMU police. When did that change?

PPS teacher said...

I have more than 20 years experience as a PPS high school teacher. I've seen many fights, and I've been personally involved in more than a few. Never once has a PPS police officer come to my aid. Never once. They always show up after the fact to take reports, and to transport students to Juvie.

It's the security guards who are on the spot to help me. Make of that what you will, but that's the way it is.

Thank you, security guards.

Anonymous said...

To the PPS teacher who breaks up fights. Stay in your room - - - don't break up fights. When you get hurt you are on your own. Contrary to myth, you are not required to breakup fights. The so-called Union will not help, administration will say that it was your fault and you will probably end up in court and/or the emergency room. If it happens in your room, get on the phone and call one of the PELA fellas. They have all the answers!! Let them deal get their clock cleaned. God knows they could use a good butt kicking. As far as security is concerned, they have been getting the shaft for longer than your 20 years in PPS. They are not to blame for the mess that the PPS administrators have created. (no I am not with the Security department)

Former PPS Teacher

Anonymous said...

I agree with Former teacher- the union will tell you that you must try to stop a fight-- YES-- yoiu say, " students stop fighting" I have told very surprised parents that NO I do no break up fights- It is not my job-- I am hired to teach and I do- well... but I am not a bouncer. I have seen too many teachers injured. I have also seen teachers attempt to break up a fight and be accused of holding one student, causing the other one to get another blow in.

Anonymous said...

January 3, 2016 at 8:39 PM

Security can not get unemployment. Their is no summer school. They got rid of summer cleaners and they were under paid big time.

Anonymous said...

I just want to thank the 3 security guards in my building you do a great job and always there when we need you with out you 3 and over 1000 kids this school would be crazy its amazing how you guys keep the school under control, safe, and secured thank you guys and keep up the good work. You guys deserve more respect then you are giving.

Anonymous said...

Thank you to the teachers that thank the security on here. I can see sending the security to schools by their choice from the seniority list. The security should be able to pick where they want to be so they enjoy their job. The security are starting to talk amongst each other about making $15,000 + over time less than the police and doing absolutely all the hard work. Being laid off in the summer with no unemployment really hurts families. Security do way too much and that is going to change. Security will only do their jobs from now on. Security are really talking to each other and they are miserable and will stop doing all the work.

Anonymous said...

2:05PM

Are you saying that the superintendent search should consider an EDUCATOR who has been 'tested'?

The question is rhetorical and no pun intended.

Anonymous said...

7:27 - No need to be "rhetorical"----that is exactly the point to be made. Given the state of affairs for the majority of students in PPS, it seems clear that our students MUST NOT be put at further RISK?

Anonymous said...

What educator in recent history has shown successful command of a large, urban Pennsylvania School District?

Anonymous said...

Why don't they just have a Security dept and call the city police for assistance. If they will not do that they need to separate the police and security into two separate department. It is a shame that the pps lay the security off during the summers because they work really hard in the schools.

Anonymous said...

So it follows that a 'tested' educator would need to be able to compare and contrast, distinguish between cause and effect, identify main idea and supporting details, distinguish between fact and opinion and use context clues.

Seems as if the PSSA's and SAS's need to be taken by interested candidates before the interview process.

Wonder if the Perkins consultant sees this as a 'must' have?

Anonymous said...

7:30 - No, you do not need to be able to do any of processes to be highly regarded and highly paid in PPS. Forget all of those previously suggested skills. They would only get you in a whole lot of trouble in PPS circles. We already know that our schools have little regard for solving problems, better to develop plan after plan, year after year, which never leads to outcomes that are realized in success for students before or after graduation.

PPS just needs more neophytes developing, developing, developing. That is the "must have" that will come from Perkins' "advise and consult" contract. Its the only path to success for adults employed by PPS.

Anonymous said...

5:48 - There are a few who come quickly to mind; but it just holds them up as objects for ridicule. It would also put the Broad/Gates people out of opportunities.

Anonymous said...

Sounds like our students will be put at further risk( 3:05 ) if 9:08 and 9:11's assessment of things is correct.

Anonymous said...

Right 10:00. None of this really about students, skills, success or even education. Its about "developing" plans, pathways, and positions for young adults with potential as they seek a place for themselves in Pittsburgh's professional community.

Anonymous said...

Your assessment ( however cynical ) comes from your seeming knowledge that is gathered from the outside and contrasts with the "knowing" that arises from within the hearts of thousands of teachers , students, security guards and the like who share their energy every day with one another . That energy endures.

Anonymous said...

Most security officers that I know LOVE their jobs and the students. Yes, they are underpaid, but hopefully that all changes soon for them...As far as the person complaining about the chief not being qualified and everybody being miserable under him, maybe you should apply for his position and begin to change the department...You seem like the type of person that IS miserable and wants to make EVERYONE else miserable around you, and/or point fingers without ever trying to resolve anything......

HAPPY NEW YEAR

Anonymous said...

I agree with anon1:25 pm hit the nail rite on the head .please do not speak for all of security most do love there jobs and the students and would do anything to protect them from harm so the person who keeps on bashing the chief is either jealous or a very angry security person who I would not work well with if he or she is doing more complaining then doing the job that needs to be done.i would not feel at ease knowing that this person is working around children with this much anger.so if you got a complaint about your job just quit and go and bag groceries and deal with the public and see how far your complaining will get you .Have a great day .Ps Thank you chief Brown for doing a great job

Anonymous said...

January 7, 2016 at 7:42 PM since Chief Brown is doing such a great job why don't the union or school board send the police and security questionnaire's about his performance and then lets look at the results. What screwed the pps up was politics and that is why he became chief. How can you fail a commanders test and still become a commander and you think this man is an ounce qualified with no college education. What does he know about being professional. The pps does not even need a police force! What a waste of tax payers money.

Anonymous said...

January 6, 2016 at 1:25 PM what planet are you from? The security are miserable! Over worked and under paid. They do all the work and are not appreciated. You call that a reason to be happy? One security guard to 300 kids are they nuts? These kids are out of control! After taxes the security make crap for the job that they do! The PPS only needs a security department. A police department that is not certified and cheating through the IUP police academy. Give me a break! With a chief that is not college educated and failed the commanders test. Mark Williams should be the Chief he passed the test and is college educated! Even security should have to take a test. They hire idiots through politics! Their should be a chief of security and a security department and the city police involved. The school police hate being in the buildings and do not have a re pore with the kids. The kids do not respect school police at all! They respect security way more. Who in the world took security out of high schools and put a police officer that does nothing in it? The kids do not listen to them! You hurt the schools! The PPS and union need to quit listening to the school police lie to them and tell them that they are needed and qualified! You can respond to this threat but this is all true id you defend it or not!

Anonymous said...

Mark Williams knows the PPS system, its people and its students in ways that few others do or could given his experience, intelligence, and history of good decisions!

Just needed to reinforce the 'wisdom' of those who know and have worked with Mark throughout the system for more than 20 years. (How many years has Mark been building relationships in PPS?)

The Gates/Broad/Roosevelt entourage has excised the "professionals" in PPS who once lead the District to "good results" and thus a "good reputation".

Where and when possible we need the return of successful leaders (in all capacities) to, at the very least, MENTOR, those now in position who are taking the district backwards. The students deserve the best we can provide.

Anonymous said...

Mark Williams was cheated! He passed the commanders test and was passed by. He is college educated and was passed by(All because of politics. Could you imagine how successful the safety of the schools could be if he was chief. He is what you call a leader. We are wasting our time the PPS will not make the right changes for success!

Anonymous said...

Every one wants blame the Police in the schools. But there are officers in some schools and answer calls just like security officers do. Two schools that I, know of are Westinghouse and Carrick those officers have a Repor with the security staff students and work together as a team. But there needs to be support from administration.

What about the Police that don't help the security keep the school safe. A Police Officer swears in to serve and protect not tell the security that they are not security guards and will not help and do a security officers job. There are more than two high schools right? I am telling you a police department is not needed, the PPS only need a security department and have the city police take the urgent calls. The security are tired off doing the work, standing in the stands alone at football games freezing, put on the front lines, no respect, and no raise.

Anonymous said...

The security and police chief and commander do not back us. When you work in a middle school you are alone to break up fights and handle all situations alone and this is not possible. You do not have your own office and have no where to eat your lunch. When you try to eat lunch with other staff you can tell you are not welcome. The chief and commanders help is to move you to a worse school. When you work in a middle school you have to beg to work over time.

Anonymous said...

Anon 4:01 pm you need to make the school your own you are in charge of your self .Be happy you have a job because you must have done something wrong to be demoted to a middle school your next move will probly out the door .

You need to make the school your own. You are in charge of yourself. Be happy you have a job. Because, you must have done something wrong to be demoted to a middle school. Your next move will probably be out the door.

I am getting tired of correcting your grammar Anon 4:01 pm.

Anonymous said...

So now someone is telling Anon 4:01 to just shut up, and be happy you have a job? Really? Problems don't get fixed by telling whistleblowers to just be happy you have a job.

And I see nothing very wrong with Anon 4:01's grammar. It's not perfect, but Anon's experience is in PPS security, not in teaching English literature.

Keep up the good fight, Anon 4:01! Keep reporting here what you see at work. I'm a PPS teacher, and I know you're telling the truth.

What's gonna happen to the safety department when they hire a new superintendent .Rumor is that the police will be gone and they can't take a security persons job due to seniority . They are talking to city police about the change over.I think they are talking about it during the contract talks. The police in the pps are lazy and do nothing all day except write reports while security are working there tails off in some schools not all. When you can take a look at this department when they are all together it's a disgrace to the uniform most of them if not all could not pass a running test or a paper test. When and if Chief Brown retires you will see the changes that will come with his retirement .No more favorites, no more Harassment ,and Bullying .So when he goes the whole police department should go to

Anonymous said...

January 21, 2016 at 12:30 AM Thanks for sticking up for Security. We need more people like you to stick up for us. We work our tails off all year then are laid off while the School Police that do nothing still get a pay check. The City Police is what the district needs to stop the politics, cheating, lying, and bullying from the Chief of Police. That was the Chief's grammar that we were correcting not Security. Everyone in the department knows the School Police have cheated their way through the IUP Police Academy and the Chief of Police failed the Commanders test and then because of politics they changed the qualifications to only needing a high school diploma to run an entire Police and Security Department. The district needs a Security Department with a voted Security boss and City Police to stop the corruption. All of the Chiefs friends get all the over time and the best schools. I do not have much seniority but I believe it should go by seniority for the school you want and over time. Every Security Officer will get there seniority time. If they do get rid of the School Police they will go by Seniority for the job because things will be done honest and correct. What do they need School Police for? To write a report? What about when there are riots, teachers and security being assaulted, spit on, sworn at, parents out of control, someone come into the school with a weapon? Where are the School Police then? You come when the kid is calm! The police in the buildings remind the security over and over again how they are above them and they only have to make the report. The over time the police usually get why? The security do all the work in the schools. You only need one police officer with arresting powers at functions. The security are over worked and under paid for the job they do! When a security officer goes to a call they can see a riot with chairs flying and they handle the situation. The police arrive after they handle the entire situation alone while the police hide in the their office. How often do security call the police? NOT TOO OFTEN! Everyone is talking about the police cheating through the police academy and a chief of police that is not qualified. The school police that are in the schools are terrible when they interact with parents and students. They cause issues for the security. Who took a hard working security officer out of schools and replaced them with lazy police? That was just not too bright to do! Some day the security will be paid and appreciated for their hard work and how they care for the kids and staff. Not everyone can be a good security officer.

January 24, 2016 at 9:02 AM they really need to get rid of the police department. They should not be able to replace security because of seniority. Security work their tails off while school police do nothing. Only a Security boss and security is needed. Security can call the city police if they have an emergency. 99% of the time the security never call the police for situations. The police want you to think differently though! A security boss should be voted on by the security officers not anyone else. No politics!

Is the district ever going to get rid of the uneducated Chief of Police that does not have a clue how to run a department? When will they realize that we need a Pittsburgh city police officer in the schools and not school police. The security do deserve a raise. They need a chief of security and that is it and make sure they are educated!

Anon 8:37 pm We need more security in all the schools to pick up the slack from the security who do not put in an 8 hour shift and they know who they are .
