Is the pool of talented professional educators so lacking at PPS that Bernard Taylor is chosen to principal this partnership which is supposed to be the'model' for future district and community sharing in the education of our children?

As kids, we used to take "models", spread glue all over, then burn. Is Westinghouse burning? Can Mr. Taylor put out the fire. I am thinking the sharing community up and left long ago. I have to wonder why PPS Adm. and Board keep sending the poorest of choices to Westinghouse. I have to believe that if there were a "talented professional educator" to lead, he/she would not go anywhere near it. What a shame!
Bernie Taylor does indeed have some very close friends on the Board and at the administration building. Let go by 2 other districts and NO proven record in Pgh after all these years and yet they made him the 3rd principal this year at Westinghouse. Those poor students-the mess just continues . Is that what they call "Talent Management"?????
What a joke. Think about private enterprise for a moment. What kind of company goes through three chief executives in one year? I'll tell you want kind of company. It's the kind of company that is clueless, and foundering. It's the kind of company that goes bankrupt.
This would actually be amusing, except that the students at Westinghouse must suffer because of it. This is not 1917. It's 2017. Those without an education will be left behind. And the PPS is evidently OK with leaving Westinghouse behind.
But who couldn't predict this? The new PPS boss is the same as the last PPS boss. Who was the same as the PPS boss before her. Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss.
It is a shame people write about what they don't know or experience. Dr. Taylor has been the glue to keep Westinghouse together. He has experience and expertise in coordinating school efforts to best meet the needs of all children. Folks. EXPERIENCE MATTERS!!! And he really does care about students -- at the very core of what he does each day at Westinghouse. I am not political. I am not tied into anyone's agenda. I don't have anything to gain or lose by writing this post. I just need people who read this blog to know that what you read isn't always what is happening. Westinghouse would be very fortunate if Dr. Taylor would decide to stay at the school in a more permanent capacity. Everyone has ups and downs in their career, mistakes as well as successes along the way. One should not be held back or judged by those (especially when you only hear the media version of stories). Most importantly, is the person willing to step in during difficult times, stay calm, practice good decision making, and support the students and staff. This should be applauded, not criticized. He was the right decision.
Teachers have up and downs but many successes along the way. Do you think they are given many chances? Especially older teachers who have worked hard all their life for PPS? What did he accomplish at Milliones? Great success? EXPERIENCE matters!!!
But NOT really teacher experience.
Teachers are criticized all the time-hounded, belittled and beaten down. What makes him so special that he should be given a free pass? We would be FIRED!!!
In the media version, Superintendents Hamlet and Iverson had no comment as to the decision to appoint Dr. Taylor as the third principal in less than a year. If he were the glue that is holding the school together this indeed would be news worthy. I suspect that the careful planning that went into the Partnership is responsible for navigating any difficult times with calm, good decision making while supporting the students and staff.
Seems to me it is premature to judge Dr. Taylor's impact on the Westinghouse/Wilkinsburg Partnership - one way or the other.

What evidence do you have to support your criticisms? Seriously, the word everywhere is that he is doing an amazing job.
Looking for something to applaud.
There are some really uninformed people posting who do not know PPS history. Dr. Taylor turned A. Leo Weil around big time. He got the he must be cheating treatment, because the scores improved dramatically. Just imagine what a former superintendent in three school district must have seen learned(fired in 2 places? Why was John Thompson fired? The answer politics)
Westinghouse has a Principal waaaay over qualified. He just might do what he did for A. Leo Weil.
How is that someone can be considered "waaaay over qualified" in the education of children? - any more than a parent can be considered over qualified in parenting. With that kind of mentality we lose the task before us.
Leadership is needed. Time will tell whether Dr. Taylor can lead this Partnership and practice good decision making. The above PG article failed to make the decision making process transparent and denied the public the information that would support or applaud his past experiences - such as A.Leo Weil.
