Westinghouse Community Meeting

PURE Reform's report on the second Westinghouse community meeting.

This discussion is of more than general interest for many areas outside of Homewood, since Westinghouse will apparently be the new "home school" for students in Highland Park, Bloomfield, Garfield, Polish Hill, Shadyside, etc. who do not apply or are not selected in the lottery for a magnet school, or who do not maintain the grade requirements set by a magnet (ie, at least C's in all core subjects at the IB school).

Yeah, I can just see parents in Highland Park, Shadyside and Bloomfield chomping at the bit at the notion of their kids traveling over to the warm confines of Homewood. I am sure they can't control their excitement.
Buffoons. Total buffooons.

They actually seem to be assuming that most people in these neighborhoods will go to IB; but even if the IB program is changed to reduce emphasis on the diploma, the program is not right for every student.

Why aren't they including more people in these discussions, when it's clear that there are going to have to be changes in feeder patterns to Westinghouse?

Or, you know, perhaps they could plan districtwide...
