"America's best high schools"

PG report on US News list of best high schools. PPS on the list are CAPA in the gold category and Brashear in the bronze category.

Brashear's SAT scores are well below the national average:

Verbal Brashear 447/ National 501
Math Brashear 484/ National 515

The article explained that the bronze category is for schools that do not offer AP or IB courses and that in the bronze category indicators other than the college readiness index are used.

Looks like CAPA was in the Bronze cateragory according to the cited article.

"...Pittsburgh CAPA and Pittsburgh Brashear were in the bronze category"

Something is not right here. Brashear does offer AP classes.

I used to know how US News picks the schools but I forget. Is it that schools nominate themselves as with other awards?

How Brashear ends up in the bronze category numbs the mind. This is a school that slipped dramatically in test scores last year.
