Can anyone offer an update on the possible candidates for board seats up for the next election cycle?

With the changes in district demographics for the several districts, I have yet to see a map indicating what streets have been impacted. Can someone identify the new streets in the West End that will join with the North Side? This district is currently represented by Skip McCrea. This may influence who the potential candidates will be since he is not running for a another term.

I've heard from several sources that Dave Schuilenburg, the independent minded democratic committee member who ran against Darlene Harris several years ago, is strongly considering a run. He lives in Summer Hill & would be in the district no matter where the new lines are. Personally, I also think he'd be a strong candidate, and one we so desperately need to start clearing out the Finks & Eislers of the board.

That district already has a strong candidate in Regina Holley.

Summer Hill is in McCrea's district.

Darlene Harris was my board member, then Patrick Dowd, then Heather Arnett, then her replacement, now Regina Holley. Has that particular district been changed?

Sorry, should have clarified.. Schuilenburg ran against Harris for City Council.

The topic is School Board candidates.

Dave Schuilenburg is going to be a school board candidate for what is now Skip's seat.

He has political experience and ambitions.

He has school age kids.

He has a regular job as a 9-1-1 operator.

I'm happy to call Dave a friend.

Regarding Schuilenburg: "He has political experience and ambitions."

What does the "ambitions" part mean? Does it mean political ambitions? Too many people see a School Board seat as just a stepping-stone to another political office. In my opinion, we don't need those types of people.

So please clarify what you meant by "ambitions."

I understAnd that "stepping stones" doesnt sound good-- but in reality people with political ambitions are aware of-- constituents. Only Mr. Brentley, and now Dr. holley act as if their consituents have a valid opinion. What pps doesnt need is more board members starry eyed over the name roosevelt, or broad puppet trained. What is needed are people who see the job as representing a section of this city!

I think there is a lot to be said about learning goverment systems from the ground up.

When will candidates begin circulating petitions?

2013 Circulating period:
The county elections & the PA dept of state sites have not been updated yet for 2013, but PA electoral law states the primary nomination petition period is from between the 13th Tues & the 10th Tues before the primary, which for 2013 would be between Feb 19th & Mar 12th. The 2013 primary is on Tues May 17th.

Other potential candidates:
Apparently word on the street is that City Council president Darlene Harris, who used to be PPS Board President (http://old.post-gazette.com/neigh_city/20020710foundationcity1p1.asp) is going to support an unnamed former PPS female principal to run against (the all but announced) Schuilenburg in the upper north side / west end district currently held by Skip McCrea. But the same word on the street has it that the PFT is not comfortable with their past dealings with this former principal. Would be curious to know who this mystery candidate is, or if anyone else, especially former PPS administrators, are considering runs for the board in this or any other district! Considering how many current board members apparently will not be running again, looks like a fight between 'the same old backroom' & progressive candidates is shaping up within the school board in 2013!...
