No sign of a report by the PG- does PG consider the incident not newsworthy or what?

PG only prints what PPS wants them to print. The U. Prep situation is about to blow up and PPS's PR department is going to be able to cover things up much longer.

Seriously, in WHAT OTHER DISTRICT can a student be a victim of attempted homicide on his way to shcool and it is not FRONT PAGE news and on every broadcast? Imagine this was a Mount Lebanon or South Fayette high school senior, it would be on every station and paper. Does PPS seriously have this much power over the local media? I can't find a single other report of this story.

What will it take to get the City Police in our schools? The students think that School Police are a joke because they have zero re pore with them and know that they do not care. The kids call them rent a police. If the PPS do not get the City Police in these schools something horrible may happen to the staff or children. Do it now please do not wait for someone to get hurt! Their were people shooting at these kids and the school was not on lock down????? Were the parents called? Why was the parents not notified on the news stations?

Maybe the new police chief from Madison will change it up. Madison is not as small nor is it ho dunk as many people think. It is a very liberal and progressive city of 380,000+ (not including suburbs) I grew up in Madison & lived in Pittsburgh for 7 years recently.

The school district is almost the exact same size at Pittsburgh. The demographics are less complicated (I think it is 33% minority) but they have issues. They DO NOT have a separate police force. I don't see why PPS needs one with a district of its size. Hire extra on the force that specialize in kids.

Win/win no hiding behind failed security.

Let me please respond. The Security in the PPS work their @@@ off! They are 1. Counsel staff when stressed and protect them, 2. Are in these schools and at games and protect the outside when kids are shot at without a gun vest, 3. A therapist and counselor to the students that have mental issues and behavior issues, 4. When working with the School Police the Security are the ones in the front line even knowing that they treat the Security like they are in charge when these Security Officers protect these schools, 5. The Security break up fights and when the kids are throwing desks or punching the teacher in the face the Security handle the situations. The Security run to these calls not walk!!! 6. If a person comes into the schools with a gun who will protect your children? The Security Officers will because they consider these children their own. Caring for them and protecting them. Never respected for their work. The parents come to the Security when they are having problems with their children because the Security have a wonderful re pore with their kids and adore them! The Security Officers sit down and talk and listen to these kids. Making sure they get to class. If a child is bullied the Security are on top of it!
7. The Security Officers take the parents verbal abuse. They remain professional calming the parent down gaining a re pore with the parent and then helping them feel confident that their child will be well taken care of. 8. I could go to number 100!

The Security do feel under paid for all that they do and unappreciated by the district and Police Officers. If a situation happens at the schools the Police come after the Security handled the entire situation and they take credit for a job well done! If a child stops breathing the Security Officer will give the child cpr and revive the child then the PPS Police will arrive and take credit for everything! The PPS Police received a nice raise. How do you think the Security Officers felt? The Security know how to handle multiple situations. The Security look as these kids as their own. They know what kids throw desk, were molested and abused. Do you know that the PPS kids come and tell the Security when they are sick, need help, molested, abused and so on? They the Security report the situation. These kids are mentally and physically abused, molested, drug abuse, born an addict! Can the Police or the Principal tell us who that child is? No but Security can! Reward the little people. Start changing the world it needs change!

It's very strange, a couple of weeks ago there was a report of a person with a gun in Squirrel Hill (who knows, maybe it was just a person licensed to carry a gun), and schools were placed on lockdown; and just before that there was a report of a home invasion in Homewood, and schools were put on lockdown; but on Friday there were actually shots fired at a student about to enter a school, and no report of a lockdown.

Meanwhile, when a small piece of plaster fell at a school some years back there were all sorts of news releases by the district, but no news release or report by the PG when shots narrowly miss a student. Let's see, what would parents be more concerned about, a piece of plaster or gunshots?

As a teacher, i agree that the school security are our first line of protection and should be treated much better.

All of the Hill District schools, u prep, Weil, and miller should have been place on lockdown Friday after the shots were fired. You just don't know how people think these days. Those shooters could have come into my school looking for a sibling of the attempted target when they didn't get him. That is the mentality of some of these shooters. We should have AT LEAST been told about it. My school is right down the street and we heard nothing about it.

I believe it was minimized to avoid bringing further bad PR after the prior lockdowns and evacuation.

The prevailing culture in PPS is clandestine. Everything that is negative is swept under the rug or manipulated to appear better than it really is. The bigger problem that comes from being covert about important "issues" is that the problems do not get solved! Yet and still, the problems ARE SOLVABLE, but not without opportunities to see the challenges and address them in an open and honest manner. Take on the problems and solve them for the good the youth and children who are constantly dragged under--until they react as only the young can act--in defiance of a system that does not work to create programs and places where they can live and learn and thrive successfully.
Our youth need adults that they can TRUST to know and do the right thing!

Three schools again on modified lockdown; there is a link to an article about an increased police presence at an elementary school; but again, nothing about extra protection in a neighborhood where shots were actually fired. ???

How do we hold the media and PPS accountable to report threats and secure our buildings in the face of ACTUAL shots being fired?? This is crazy!! Another vague threat gets more attention than actual gunfire at a student.

How do we hold the news media accountable? We know PPS is accountable to no one, but doesn't the local media have some accountability in the face of such a clear and immediate danger to so many students and teachers ?

Does anyone know which reporter or reporters at the PG would normally be responsible for reporting this type of event?
