This happens daily in my elementary school. A real union would be keeping us safe. This isn't new. The media coverage is new. It's happening at so many schools.
Yes it is. A teacher at Uprep got assaulted today too.

You have to see this interview. Our superintendent when asked if these assaults are rare says on camera "that depends on your definition of rare, let's not get into definitions" WTH? Is there a new way to define rare? Or what is considered rare at PPS is different than rare at other distructs? Crazy.

So tired of "shock and awe" at the violence that we all know isnt "rare" If the union wanted to stop it the first step would be to say-- call the union immediately after medical care-- we WANT to know when this happens. Remember that students are witnessing this violence. It was the reason that long ago city teachers got more money than other places. Stop acting shocked. And just like suspensions etc are reported to the board, how about the board asking for this information instead of hiding from it?
Also take notice of how his solution was more counseling for the kids. Great. But nothing to help teachers stay safe? Maybe if we were able to suspend kids for their unruly behavior instead of being made to fix a situation that is so disruptive it leads to this, the teacher and the other kids trying to learn would not have to endure this kind of traumatic event.
A security guard was injured after he was reportedly pushed by a student at Pittsburgh King Elementary School on Thursday.
According to a witness, a student pushed the security guard down at the school.

Can anyone confirm that another big issue is that principals are calling childline on teachers and security, so especially security are pulling back on interacting with disruptive students?
No its not a teachers job to break up situations, but security cant do their job when they are second guessed at every step-- by principals who certainly dont do anything about these situations.

I haven't heard of this at my school and we break up a LOT of fights. I hope this isn't true, that is a serious misuse of the childline reporting system, I suppose anything is possible these days. These are crazy times,
