"Community Dialogue" about magnet admissions process

In addition to the Community Dialogue about facilities, according to A+ Schools a Community Dialogue is being held about the magnet admissions process. It is not clear whether the "Community Dialogue" name indicates that the magnet meeting will also be based on a questionnaire and small groups.

Unfortunately, this meeting will be held during spring break, when many families are away, as well as on the second evening of Passover.

The event does not seem to be on the board or parent engagement activities calendars at this time.

Watch and see if there are changes at CAPA. This school has a lot of control over who is admitted and uses it to select those who are not just interested in arts but are also very good students.

What is being proposed should be released ahead of the meeting, so that people can decide whether the issues are important enough for them to go to this meeting and so that they have the time to consider proposals thoughtfully rather than make off the cuff comments. There are less than 3 weeks between this meeting and the board vote.

One improvement in the process would be to check back a month or two after lottery results are mailed to see who is planning to attend the program, and even to encourage a decision by a certain date. It seems like some programs do this (for ex CAPA) but others do not. Some people may receive the results card, decide to go elsewhere, and forget about it (maybe not realizing there could be a waiting list).
