This sets a very bad precedent for central office to condone this. Demonstrate on your own time - not school time.

i can see capa doing this but what about the K-8s? Surely, elementary kids won't be marching, right?

All the high schools are doing it to.Its going to be a crazy day for pps staff

It's a half day for students.

So what if it's a half day it's still going to be crazy for 4 hours in the high schools

It is all in how you handle it. How about teachers wearing hoodies, too. Get behind the meaning of the tribute. Staff has the power to use it to advantage. Be creative and supportive in your approach.

Good to see the kids having a social concious.

While I feel badly for Tayvon and feel that truly, every man's death diminishes me, whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty? How can a school district champion such a cause without the facts being known?
Answer...because you have cowards in central administration who would rather capitulate than make an intellectual, thoughtful statement.
If conjecture is true, then the neighborhood watch shooter should do time, but jumping the gun in this case harkens us back to a time period when the accused were hung long before they had a trial.
What can central administration be thinking?
What cowards.

Why did some high schools recieve permission and others did not? Will students of Westinghouse be sanctioned if they showed up wearing hoodie?

Maybe students at some schools didn't ask for permission, and as a result have to meet normal dress standards (although there is no longer a uniform at Westinghouse and so maybe hoodies are normally permitted as long as hoods are not pulled up).

I honestly and truly feel for the family of this young man that passed away tragically at such a young age. BUT the people in PPS (which are 1500 miles away from this tragedy) should NOT listen to media reports. unless you know the facts of the case, how can you call Mr. Zimmerman a racist and say he is guilty of murder.

We should be teaching our young men and women about the justice system that this country adopted a long long time ago...INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY & not guilty because the MEDIA says you are a racist!......to me, anyone that says this man shot this young man because he was black is a racist themself because they are stereotyping that because this man shot a black person, he must be racist!....If Mr. zimmerman (who is hispanic)shot a white youngster because he was wearing a hoodie in a hispanic neighborhood would everyone be calling him a racist? the answer is easy....OF COURSE NOT!! Again, I am deeply sorry for the loss of such a young life. But this man has never had his day in court...

Think about this.....if people are saying that non-black people tend to stereotype that all black people wearing hoodies or baggy pants must be "gansters" or "drug dealers" then ANYONE that suggests a white or hispanic person is a racist if they commit a crime against a black person before knowing ALL of the facts is a racist themselves because they just assume a white person commits a crime because they don't like black people....Again...innocent until PROVEN guilty...and learn to hold judgement until you know ALL of the facts!

Right now there's no way to say if Zimmerman is innocent or guilty because he hasn't even been arrested. that's the point of the protest -- the absurd "stand your ground" law in FL.

Uh, no one is refuting that he killed the kid -- he says he did. So, the only question is whether that murder was somehow justified by what happened directly before it.

Race likely did have a part in this, but the case certainly doesn't rest on it.

It rests on whether someone can follow a kid around, first in a car, then on foot, call the cops saying he's suspicious (all of these things are from facts, like the 911 calls), ignore the dispatcher when told not to follow him on foot. And then, moments later, shoot him.

When fully investigated, it may or may not turn out to be self-defense, but there is no question that Zimmerman killed Martin and that if Zimmerman had driven on by that night, Martin would have not been shot.

Without the publicity this has gotten, it would never have been investigated to the degree it has been and a man (with crimes including violence in his past) who "goes to the store" with a loaded gun would feel even more encouraged to "patrol" on his own. :-p

Did anyone receive a post card apologizing for putting the wrong last name on the Summer Dreamers enrollment package mailing?

The postcard includes "due to an error made by the printer, the mailing envelope may have included an incorrect last name. We apologize for the error. Luckily, the mistake has no impact on the contents of the envelope."

To me it seemed like those days were over...
I thought there are not so many racists these days.
Do you think it's all about the color of the skin? Maybe it's a coincidence.
It is terrible either way...
