Maybe I mistakenly thought there was a hiring freeze until they figured these financial issues out?

We sure do have a large HR department. I'd like to add up all their salaries.

I'd like to add up the salaries of all administrators who have nothing to do with the classroom. We are talking millions here.
Must be nice: all you have to worry about is lunch plans and looking busy, being a part of March Madness party and cook-outs, have no worries about being furloughed and have absolutely no flack from taxpayers.

400 teachers are going to be fired so these people can stay gainfully employed.

Amazing.

Can someone remind me of how I should feel "empowered"?

Central Office also includes Paulette Poncelet, Barbara Rudiak, Jan Ripper, Cate Reed, David May Stein, Sam Francis, Mark Campbell, Viola Burgess, Virginia Hill, and Rhonda Graham.

That's another ten people with high salaries.

A total of 18 top Administrators here with lots of Directors and Project Managers under them!

Speaking of "promise readiness" position, when I checked out at the Giant Eagle, the cashier asked if I wanted to donate to the Pittsburgh Promise.

There are many more at Professional Development at Greenway-that are via high Adm salaries.

I have questions-
Are the positions just a formality for the individuals that have the present posted position as a job-have to reapply as an annual gig?

Or are they firing the people in the posted positions at the present time??

Or for the good buddies like Eddie Jones to get another position and stay at the Board-for connected reasons.

Like the good buddy network.

There is a definite reason for the job postings to be up-We wonder why?

How much does Paulette Poncelet, Barbara Rudiak, Jan Ripper, Cate Reed, David May Stein, Sam Francis, Mark Campbell, Viola Burgess, Virginia Hill, and Rhonda Graham, Eddy Jones, Marni Pastor, Jacob House, Pierce Kuldruf & Holly O'Donnell Make?

Is there anyone on those list that we must keep at central office. Cant they push some of them down to the schools, to be principal, couselors or teachers?

Anonymous said...

Why would you want to do that?! Most of them do not have the qualifications to be principals or counselors, for sure, let alone any ability to do so.

Besides we are CUTTING positions currently, so why would we put untested people into those slots and getting rid of people with experience?

I dont want to see these people take teaching jobs either-- BUT, you've got to admit that seeing them tortured through RISE could be quite entertaining--lets let them be empowered (yes yes this is gallows humor) All of the furloughing and bumping will be awful for students.

Read the latest Board Minutes Bye Marni Pastor and a select other names from the Employment ranks of the Board. Looks like a silent firing of their ties with th board.

Cate Reed is about as qualified as the lady in charge of the Gifted-read the Post Gazette Article for today 3-26-12

They are in charge---of school restructing and layoffs-together the only qyaluifcation Reed and as my son calls the Gited Lady are a set of teeth-that can not open to utter a word-it looks like the Gifted Lady will move in with Reed as Projct Manager.

The Fourlough web is now in charge with the Three Stoooges French-Reed and the Gifted Lady-and add the guest appearance of Spanky from the old days --Nina the current PFT President.

Ok I get your point. Of the people listed are any of them valuable to the running of district? Who should be kept and who can we do with out. And if they are let go would we need to replace them?

When Dr. Lane resigns under the pressure or finds another job somewhere, is there any one on that list that could transition into the superintendent job?

Anonymous said...

None of those listed could fill the Superintendent's position. Some are flat out incompetent; others do not have the needed experience or expertise relevant to the positions that they hold. This group is chained to the Broad/Gates Agenda which has NOT been advantageous to the education of students. They continue to search desperately for a consultant or model that will show them what to do in Pittsburgh. We need educational leaders who KNOW what to do with the Pittsburgh student population.

Are there any such in Pittsburgh? Yes, but not in the current PPS Central Office.

Sorry, about an error in one name on the list. The Executive Director of Teacher Effectivenesss is Sam Franklin (not Francis). And, he does not have the background or experience for this position either.

Dr. lane is the first superintendent in recent history that does not have a deputy. Rumors have it she was too paranoid that someone under neath her would be better and could take her job. Therefore she eliminated the position all together. The board still is trying to figure out who is second in command. Who is in charge when she is not there? Who will take over once she resigns?

If she does not have anyone ready to step up and take over if she leaves, we should be looking for another superintendent now. We cant be left with out leadership can we?

I don't know exact figures but it ranges from about 100k to 140, that does not include bonuses.

Not in-the-know enough to comment on anyone's qualifications for the positions they hold. Only thing I ever taught was a CCD class as a substitute and have it on good authority that I stunk at it. Of all the admin names mentioned in the many comments above, who beside Dr. Lane is a Sixth Grade Mentor? Please tell me who might have expressed a passionate desire to help one student stay focused and on track? No johnny-come-latelys. Lane has always seemed most delighted to be in the company of children. Got to give her that.

Few...very few...individuals within the central administration ponzi scheme are essential to this district. I'm at a loss as to how Pittsburgh taxpayers allow them to go unscathed.
I'm also at a loss to explain how Dr.Lane will "resign under pressure." What pressure? Where is it? You mean, over Westinghouse? Please. She has already been taking pages out of the Roosevelt playbook.
You know...let the people bitch and moan for a while and it will pass....just like Schenley?

These people know that NOTHING will get a mass demonstration from Pittsburgh residents on a prolonged basis. That's their trump card.

The level of incompetence and personal agendas within the circle of administrators is beyond belief. If you only knew. It's easy to forget that we are supposed to be in the business of educating children. These people have forgotten their charge and laugh all the way to the bank.

I honestly cannot say that one name listed here should be spared from the axe. Completely useless.

allow me to speak from the husband of one of those adminstrators...watched her go to work everyday - EVERY SINGLE DAY - AS A TEACHER at the grade school, high school and the principle level...and she manages multiple degrees, a family and life...they don't pay her enough for all the children's lives she has touched and changed (I've been blessed to see the connection that she has with children)...all the kids we walked home, stayed with until night...You all have no idea because you have not earned those spots....much sacrifice is involved....you wouldn't think it was too much $ if you was making it??? And you can but from where I sit its gon take a lot more doing and less talking...you obviously only know names but you really don't know the people you speak of..shoot when we married the district most of yaw were still in school trying to make it....20yrs I've witnessed this lady pave the way for most of you who speak ill....and this is the thanks she gets...she neglected her own children, on many occasions, so that other parents would have peace of mind....I'm disappointed in what I read...there is a cost associated with those positions... please post this...I should have the right to respond to this....she has set an example and that's why she has the position... I just happened to google her name LMBO!!!

What? Your posting doesn't really make much sense here -- is she an upper level administrator or a principal?

There's a huge difference and there are currently very FEW administrators that spent any time in the teaching or principal trenches.
