Former Westinghouse principal resigns from new position

An article from the Trib cites problems similar to those that plagued Westinghouse- discipline and scheduling.  The printed Trib headline refers to the resignation as "abrupt."

The Trib article mentions the failed experiment in single gender schooling but does not clarify that this experiment was the administration's idea, not the principal's.

Interestingly, the reason given for the resignation- the desire to finish a PhD- is the same reason given by the main architect of the single gender experiment at Westinghouse, Derrick Lopez, in his recent resignation from Homewood Children's village. Let's hope PhD studies help them with future positions.

Abbott was only one of the problems with curriculum and leadership in PPS--probably one of the smaller problems.

You have to ask what are the criteria for these positions that so many are failing to find success. Who does the interview? What evidence supports the selection? Is it all superficial? Or What?

A PHD never helps WITHOUT successful experiences in the trenches.

Also the issues that she had at North Catholic--insane scheduling, discipline -- hmm echoes of her PPS experience. Except ahe was hired at least 9 months prior to North opening.. Maybe time enough to work through technical bus like schedulng? She and Lopez will show up as consultants somewhere at an urban district -

Ms. Abbott has left three principal positions in the past six years including North Catholic. My wondering is why this "background information" did not become evident thru the interview process. Why is it that candidates accept these positions and then stay for a short time. ?? I would imagine that the Catholic Schools Human Resources Department spent a lot of time and effort in selecting the best candidate for this high profile new school. Also many principals work on their doctorates while maintaining a full time job.
