This is the blog section of the PURE Reform website. Please leave your thoughts and comments here.
PURE Reform has created this blog as a forum for parents, teachers and community members to share information and voice concerns regrading the reform process in the Pittsburgh Public Schools. Although we would like to foster constructive dialogue, PURE Reform does not edit content. The views expressed by bloggers in this forum are not necessarily views held by PURE Reform.

Since I suggested the drill / activity, I'll play along:
I trust that the PPS Gifted Center is going to offer a day per week of great enrichment and challenges to those in grades 8 and lower who gain access there.
Furthermore, I trust that the gifted center day is so unlike the others that it holds students and families within the city that might otherwise depart.
I trust that foreign language instruction at grade K is valuable to the developing minds.
I trust that kids can quickly advance far beyond what the adults in their households can when it comes to continued exposure in the school day to foreign language.
I trust because I have seen that there are teachers who will continue to do an excellent job day in and day out as the trends and experiments swirl around them.
It is something being done at schools (8th and below maybe?) to improve literacy beyond what is done in a communications or language arts class or reading class. There was a presentation last year to the Ed Committee and I heard it is in action at schools this year. About 30 minutes is dedicated to the program daily. Some kids like it. Some kids are put out that they have less time to move on to the next class because time between periods was cut. I think a minute was shaved from here and there until the 30 minute mark was met. Or near 30. This apparently might involve all staff from a building.

I trust that the new intervention time for literacy will do some good...maybe...possibly...
What is the "intervention time"?
