They must have it all worked out- plenty of athletic facilities at Peabody for a 6-12 school, a successful university prep school at Milliones also with facilities for grades 6-12 (including the additional students from areas that used to feed to Brashear), a large graduating class at Sci Tech. Or do we need Schenley after all?

Yes there is no money for anything right now, but for a few million dollars we give up about $20 million worth of athletic facilities, and the chance to ever use the building again? It would be a major mistake to permanently limit facility options to two converted junior high schools and a high school building with very real limitations.

What we need is a "cooling off period" of at least 5 years before a building may be sold after a highly controversial closing. 5 years would allow ample time to evaluate the effects of the closing and would permit some fresh looks as new board members are elected.

I just wish there was any way to believe that there is a comprehensive, practical, Pittsburgh-specific plan for the district -- its buildings included.

It's all so slapdash, this today, that tomorrow.

Can we make a tally of all the money spent on Reizenstein for the four years it was used for Schenley? And the money for moving Robotics to Peabody and then moving that program to Allderdice after three years -- stranding most of those costs?

It's pretty shocking that they spent all that money for a couple of years. If a developer thinks it's possible to turn Schenley into apartments for $35 million -- which has to include the costs of heating/cooling, updating systems, as well as reconfiguring/upgrading the whole place...

Well, it's pretty clear that the opponents of this plan were right -- that the whole thing could be heated/ventilated, safe from asbestos, and used as the school it was meant to be for around $20 million.

$20 million now looks like a bargain price compared to what they've done. And I have no faith that the decisions they are making now are any better at all.

Poor Pittsburgh.....To be satisfied to have its children's education be so utterly affected by decisions made by an irresponsible administration. To have its children be sequestered in depressing, poorly designed and lesser quality facilities when a splendid building like Schenley is stilled owned by us, the citizens of Pittsburgh!
It is a crime, really a crime, to let that building go at any price.

What is the other "converted junior high" besides Milliones? (Frick was an elementary school and Obama was a middle school.)

And even the worst enemies of PPS should be advocating against the selling of Schenley! (And would be if they understood the consequences.)

Will Pittsburgh ever regain what we are losing with the Roosevelt/Lane/Fischetti regime?

Between 10 and 15 M into reizenstein. The same into milliones. After frick was an elementary school it was a middle school then many more millions to make it a 6-12.

They dont care about selling off the buidlings that pittsburgers tax dollars paid for because they are not from here and dont respect whats important to pittsburghers. Roosevelt left and Lane wont be here long, heck she never sold her property by in Iowa. After she screws the city over she is leaving too.

What a mess they have got us in and no group has over throw them yet.

I thought Lane was from West Virgina.

You are right Anonymous 6:32!

The current leadership doesn't care about buildings, students, teachers, or any Pittsburgh traditions.

They only care about power and the money they make.

And it is sad that no group has tried to force them out. People complain, but no one organizes to stop them.

She was only born in West Virgina. She was raise in Iowa from age 3. Her roots are in teh rural part of the world. She has no connection to the urban settings and loaths it. Her way of approaching things are out of touch with the way things work in a more urban and city setting.
