New fitness opportunity at Schenley; fitness challenges for students

It is time to play water polo. At Schenley in the fall, at JCC Monroeville in the evenings in August, at Citiparks' Hill District's Ammon Rec Center pool in days in August (11 am), and elsewhere. http://CLOH.wikia.com

Let's talk about productive, fit, challenges for our kids beyond the school year and school day. What did you do this summer for enrichment? What's up next? Are you and your kid going to run the Great Race?

We biked the GAP passage from Cumberland, MD to near Pgh (1/2 the trail that runs from DC to Pgh). Highly recommended!

It would be great if there were more fitness opportunities of this kind beyond the usual team sports, since a good portion of kids do not join a team or do not join one every season.

Ever do "That Dam Ride?" It is Sept 10 or so. Two days. Full ride is 70 miles each day. Starts at New Boston. Ends at a dam and campground. They haul your gear, sleeping bag, tent. Provide lunch and snacks. Pasta Sat night. All along the trail. Then Sun, back again. Cost about $65 per head. Sorta fair given what you get, but with a family, starts to get up there.

I'd love to do that trip again, perhaps with others, perhaps on the cheap. We've got 3.

Sat & Sun is Triathlon weekend for us. Races at North Park. Kids on Sat. Adults on Sun. 700m swim + 21? bike, 5K run.

Out to a late dinner at TGIF and got a call from one of Mark's neighbors, a ralative of mine. She has our son convinced to do WATER POLO after talking to mark in the neighborhood. Checking Mark's blog next. Aloha....

Evidence of what an enthusiastic approach can do- most likely there will be many people playing water polo who had never before given the sport a second thought.

Annette, since we are still awake, AND POSTING TO BLOGS AT THIS HOUR maybe we should solve the problems of the world while others rest, party and sleep!!

And when we're finished with the world we can play water polo!

But stay tuned, we are working on some interesting things.

Oh the webs we weave.

Speaking of which, we need some nets for the goals. True pun.

Hey, if you don't have any goals to shoot for, what's the point?

So, we'll be needing to make some goals. Perhaps with PVC pipe. They are needed at the JCC Monroeville as Citiparks has ordered us some regulation ones, now in freight from Calif.

Meanwhile, my wife and son have just landed at airport, back from Chicago, with delay.

This water polo is going to be a blast.

We've had up to 40 kids playing water polo this week up in The Hill -- at Ammon Rec Center Pool -- 2216 Bedford Ave, from 11 to 12:30. Generally, about 30 on average.
