Well here it is in today's PG . . .

"That puts the decision ahead of the swearing in of any potential new board members in December."

"If the board does not act, Ms. Lane is automatically reappointed."

Read the article which is all quotes from Linda Lane and you will see a disengaged, distant OBSERVER of what is happening in PPS, NOT a LEADER! These comments to a reporter are unconscionable for a Superintendent!

"We have to get out of the business of running low-performing schools," she said.

YES, WE DO! We all agree! But, it will only happen with someone who has a detailed plan, a Superintendent who KNOWS what to do!

This article is clearly laying the groundwork for the sitting Board to renew Dr. Lane. It was not an accident or some innovative news report.

Dr. Lane was first deputy superintendent and now superintendent. She had specific responsibility for academic achievement in the district for more than two years.

Enrollment is declining, charter school enrollment is growing, academic achievement dropped, and inherently unsustainable management structures foisted upon the district by Gates/Broad continue. There is no business case for renewal.

Nice person who sticks to the party line.

I'd like to see them give her a one year contract. That would be enough time to do a GOOD search for a non-Broad/Gates affiliated person (or someone who has rebelled) to take over.

Wouldn't it be nice if the PG would do a little chart of the PPS and show how since Roosevelt came along the upward trend has flattened out completely? It would be like NEWS and maybe people in the city would be tempted to think about their future without decent schools.

The idea is to keep saying the district is great until we believe it. Come on, ALA's as a sign of good work being done?

When you see that the district is 494th out 500, its a little bit impossible to "believe" that it is "great" don't you think?

All of these meetings start out with introductions puffing up the district which make people hesitant to speak up with a different view. Especially when most of those invited approve of whatever the administration does. Those who disapprove are most likely scheduled for the individual meetings. This will make a really interesting research paper for someone someday!

When did the PG sell its journalistic soul???

What an incredible puff piece---a PR piece which likely was given to the press office at PPS for approval. Truly, there are middle schoolers who could do a more probing story.

Just how long does this charlatan get a free pass to again use the press as a forum to blame teachers?

Dear Linda: You have a scripted curriculum across the district. Every school is on the same page. And within that script, you call for pair share, triad and quad work among students on an almost daily basis.
Who are you fooling? With this script, JUST HOW IN THE WORLD CAN TEACHERS BE BLAMED FOR THE SHORTCOMINGS OF STUDENTS???

Good God, when will someone call her on this ridiculousness????

Teachers are the 'bottom line' for students. Teachers make the difference or not.

Teachers must KNOW what works and DO it.

If they DO NOT, they will be blamed by everyone.

What 5:41 seems to be saying is that teachers are not allowed to do what they believe works and do should not be blamed if what they are required to do does not work as well as hoped. Seems reasonable.
