I especially enjoyed the job requirement that HR experience is not required.

Wonderful.

That's all PPS needs: up to three more central administrators who do not adequately know the content of the areas they supervise.

Just Passing By said...

Since HR experience is not required, perhaps Dr. Lane should put three of the many people she recently laid off in these positions.

This is so demoralizing. How can happen within a week of the announcement of more school closings and Dr. Lane hinting of greater student:teacher ratios? (translation: furloughs coming)

How can HR be expanding when we have fewer employees?

We're closing pre-k classrooms, cutting Tech support for teachers and students, but there's money for more inexperienced HR managers?

Oh my.

Stiff medicine: The city has no choice but to close more schools

Read more: http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/11224/1166751-192.stm#ixzz1Uok304KY

"The district has reduced central office spending by 10 percent and eliminated 276 positions, some of which were vacant."

Only 10%!!! There was supposedly a study done that stated we were staffed at central admin for a district the size of 125,000 students. Again the post-gazette patting PPS on the back without asking questions.

Dr.Linda Lane---Just another politician who continually provides propaganda for public consumption while protecting the positions which have NOTHING to do with students.
What an incredible disappointment she has turned out to be.

Explain what you mean by receivership. Are you saying that the city take control of PPS??? And Smith is going to run this by a political hack like Ravenstahl, who is part of the North Catholic connection and never participated in city schools?
What a lunatic.

How is it that positions are added and people do not start bumping into one another leading to more workers' comp cases?

How is it that meetings are held and, other than what shows up on Pure, very little useful info is reported?

Why aren't the clicker poll results posted by A+ or is it that they are but can't be found quickly?

Just when you think you have seen it all...

Did anyone else notice that just a couple of days after the layoffs were announced that the Communications and Marketing department/Office of Teacher Effectiveness issued a Request for Proposals for an Archivest.

This is not a joke:

http://www.pps.k12.pa.us/143110127101955377/lib/143110127101955377/110607_RFQ_Archivist_ConsultingSupport.pdf

"1.1. Through this Request for Qualifications (“RFQ”), the School District of Pittsburgh ("School District") seeks
responses from individuals (“Consultant”) concerning their approach and qualifications to providing assistance
to the Office of Teacher Effectiveness through the capture of knowledge for continuous improvement of reform,
and documentation of implementation of the Empowering Effective Teachers work."

Schools are closing, teachers were furloughed, pre-k classrooms are being eliminated...but the Communications and Marketing needs an Archivist.

Nice.

Receivership means that the Bank or whoever holds the mortgage can take the property back. More likely the State would takeover as it did with Philadelphia. Who knows!?

Too bad there are no attorneys supporting PURE reform. It does little good to continue complaining without taking action. The parents who have the where-with-all are making alternative decisions. So they'll be fine; but the CITY, in general, will not be fine given the state of decline in our schools.

What about the Education Law Center? How do they function?

All Hope is Lost said...

It's bad enough that there is not a lawyer working with Pure Reform, but there to learn that Pure Reform doesn't have an Archivist either...

Maybe once PPS awards the Archivist contract Pure Reform can piggyback on the pricing.

I, for one, will be surprised if this position is not awarded to a Broad resident or CORO fellow.

Three added positions are needed for "Human Capital Management"? This does seem like a joke.

Too bad we are not allowed to email our clueless/careless school board members, it just gets sent to a junk pile at PPS. We have no direct contact.

Anyone know Collaize's ( wrong spelling) salon name in Greenfield? I'll stop in and calmly let her know how unhappy I am. This is advanced ridiculous. Nobody cares.

Anonymous said...

Instead of castigating Pure Reform, we should be more appreciative. Whether you're a teacher, parent or taxpayer, this group is about all you have.

Collaizai doesn't have a salon in Greenfield. She forces me to live in the city where I work, but she's to good to have her business in the city. It's in the Crafton/Ingram shopping center, by the chinese buffet.

You can email anyone connected to PPS by using their first initial, last name, the number 1 (or 2) with no spaces then @pghboe.net as in tcolaizzi1@pghboe.net

This includes administrators, teachers, Board members, etc. (It won't go to a junk pile.)

Is Theresa Collaizi the same Theresa Collaizi who does voice overs?

Anonymous said...

Does Theresa Collaizi have a son named Franco Collaizi? A Franco Collaizi taught at the summer dreamers camp this year.

Anonymous said...

We are really reaching when we criticize TC for where she operates a business, there could be plenty of reasons it is where it is.

Yes Franco is TC's son. Speaking of Summer Dreaming, how did it go? Was attendance good? I know neighbors who opted not to take advantage of it and actually paid sitters to come to their home. They thought the day was too long.
What happens next year when the perk programs can't be funded with stimulus and it is all academic?

Anonymous said...

WAA and Pure Reform have attorney participants. The ACLU's attorneys also keep an eye of PPS issues.

Not the first time Franco made some decent cash. Their was some ethic issues regarding his high school paid tutoring a few years ago.

Pardon my their/there issue.

I'm still wondering what the guy they are paying $50,000/month to check finances or something, is doing? Have we seen a report yet?

Hire more mangement, get rid of teachers, this is complete Lunacy

All is lost, owe a nickle bet a dime Broad run School Corporation.

Remember we do not have a School Board we have a Board of Directors, A bunch of yes men, women, a sinking ship of fools

A line has been crossed. Yes, I made the comment about where her, Theresa's, business is because she won't even discuss changing residency requirements. But, leave her kids out of it, NOT COOL.

Questioner said...

If family members of directors are on the PPS payroll, especially if they are over 18, mentioning that fact does not seem out of bounds.

Anonymous said...

The news reported her son's employment, when he was in high school. How is it uncool?

Anonymous said...

It's called conflict of interest, political patronage, etc., and it goes on in every facet of government.
Calling it "not cool" isn't going to excuse it, if something is out of line. If you are in government, you are a public figure. You should know that your doings are up for discussion and scrutiny, no matter how cool others may think it is.
I'm no fan of any school board member save for Mr.Brentley, because this lot sold its soul to Roosevelt and Gates/Broad long ago. Me, I don't need to focus on anything beyond their school board dealings, which in many third world countries would have people rioting in the streets.
Political hacks. Just a group of political hacks.

Colaizzi's son was a paid tutor at Allderdice while he was a student there - and during school time. If he had tutored after school and been paid, that really wouldn't have been an issue. The fact that it was during the school day when he had a free period/study hall, is the issue.

I think that while he was a student there, his mother had everybody by the b....

Honestly, wouldn't supervisors at Summer Dreamers think twice about giving the son/daughter of a Board member anything less than a glowing evaluation?
