Displacement notices

"May need a new thread on this topic. Mass confusion district wide with displacement notices going out. Teachers who have certification and seniority In their schools are being told to look for other positions in district. The person responsible for these errors should be fired. HR has been bloated with inept non teachers who must be held accountable for this. Admin constantly violates rights of teachers and the union is slow to respond. "

I've heard from my building alone, 2 more teachers are displaced. They are special ed teachers and they've been told that they need to go to another certification area because they are highly qualified in "that" area? What in the world does this mean? Does this mean that because they are learning support, they are looking for "not highly qualified" teachers? What is going on? Our entire district is a crazy mess and what is best for kids is to move teachers to other schools that have been teaching our kids and have built relationships, maximum class sizes of 34 in each grade level, and changing curriculum yet once again.......giving teachers the almost impossible task of mastering their content because it keeps changing...leaving them ineffective and making it very easy for them to be fired. So sad.

Receiving an email first thing in the morning before leaving for work or reading it once at work is not at all pleasant or a good way to start the day. I wonder if they get over time for sending all of these emails at 1:00am.

Will they start a Cyber School?

Parents heard the rumor mill as a new school for next PPS school year. A new PPS school-no walls. No major expenses for upkeep.

They should have never hired new teachers-they knew this was coming.
HR has a Buddy System-they help their Buddy friends.

Are you saying that someone is being displaced because they are over qualified? If so Linda lane is out of control and needs to go!

There was an EFA meeting last night. Some of these questions should have been asked there by parents not here on a blog by parents who do not know enough about PPS HR procedures. For those of us who are done and have kids who are young adults and no longer students we follow this stuff to make sure there are improvements to processes and to education.

Lawsuits should be coming... "over qualified" what's next? Is this another way of getting rid of teachers higher up on the pay scale and replacing them with lesser paid teachers?

Anonymous said...

This can not be true. What school did this happen at?

I understand their is a superintendent position in Iowa at Dr. lanes old school district and she has been brought up as a potential replacement for such. I hear she has commented on the position and has left open the possiblity that she may go back and has not sold her house there yet. Recently she went back to speak at a NAACP banquet as a way of reintroducing her self to the professional Minority community.

It was not long ago that she apply for a position with the Iowa department of education and made it to the last 6 and the final rounds of interview. Unfortunately she didnt get the job and was subsequently promoted to superintendent of PPS. Maybe we can get lucky and she will get the job in IOWA, and leave us here to grow and prosper under the leadership of more experience leader who understands a urban school district.

Hr and spolar are giving teachers notices saying the are not certified in certain areas when in fact the are. She is going crazy with these notices doing her best to keep her friends and get rid of any order teacher

I've had a few in my building receive displacement emails this week. After the principal looked into it, they turned out the be "mistakes".

One teacher with 22 years was told she was "over qualified" for her current position and needed to apply for positions other than her own. This is crazy!

HR departments can't afford to make mistakes. It would seem the criteria would be quite straighforward. Certifications aren't ambiguous are they? How hard is it to calculate years of service? So, from a layman's perspective, if those two factors can't be managed efficiently how the heck can anyone expect to factor performance and effectiveness into the displacement/furlough process?

PPS plays by its own rules and disregards Pennsylvania laws. They have done so many times over the past few years. When are the governing forces going to check into this? The administration has to go! They are ruining not only the lives of so many dedicated professional people and their families, but also the innocent children of this city!

They are burning the midnight oil at Bellefield - sending out notices at 1:00 a.m. - figuring out who they can get rid of next.

Spolar will never be let go until she is good and ready. She knows where all the skeletons are buried.

Teacher firing debate continues
“This is not a young teacher versus more seasoned teacher thing,” said PFT President Nina Esposito-Visgitis. “We want all of our teachers to stay, but we think ...

As a parent-can a person tell me what
transpired at this event. . . .

A+ also held an “effective teaching” demonstration at Oliver High School on June 5 to showcase the district’s teachers in elementary and high school.

What does Commander Brown and Novicky do anyways? Nothing but give orders! They have their favorites and if they do not like you they throw you to the wolves!!!!! WHAT DO THEY DO? NOTHING AND MAKE A NICE SALARY! THE BOARD ONLY NEEDS THE SECURITY OFFICERS! THEY ARE THE ONLY ONES THAT WORK AND ARE PAID NOTHING COMPARED TO THE POLICE. THE NEXT TIME THAT YOU ARE AT A FUNCTION SEE WHO WORKS! ITS TIME FOR A CHANGE! YOU CAN TALK ABOUT FADZEN BUT AT LEAST HE TALKED TO YOU LIKE A HUMAN BEING!The department is a mess and falling apart! Why are Commanders needed? Ha, they are not needed and do nothing but put lies on paper to make it seem like they do something! What do the Police Officers do? Now that is funny! Nothing but ride around in air conditioned cars and get a call to a school that the Security Officers have handled way before they arrive!LETS GET THIS STRAIGHT THE SECURITY OFFICERS DO THE WORK AND GET ZERO RESPECT! THEY ARE SO UNDER PAID COMPARED TO THE COMMANDERS AND POLICE OFFICERS THAT DO NOTHING BUT MAKE MONEY AND LAUGH ALL THE WAY TO THE BANK! HOW OFTEN DO YOU SEE THE POLICE OFFICERS WALKING THE HALL WAYS? NEVER EVER EVER! THE SECURITY IS NECESSARY AND THE POLICE ARE NOT WHAT SO EVER!

11:27. I don't see Fadzen being brought up on this thread.

Anonymous said...

You cannot stop Fadzen! FADZEN IS EVERYWHERE!!

Anonymous said...

Can the Security write citations? Have arrest powers? We know you are security by how you write your message. We get your point...but you are not trained to do what the police can. The communities shouldn't give up on Fadzen yet...the Board may be voting at the end of this month. He did win his hearing and may be brought back. Then what are you going to do?

Voice of Reason said...

I agree completely with the June 12, 2012 11:27 PM poster.

The building security people do ALL the real security work in the PPS.

They are the ones, along with the teachers, who walk the hallways and break up the fights.

The school police are nothing more than a taxi service. They usually show up only after the fight is over, to transport students to detention facilities.

I'm not blaming the individual school police officers for this.

I'm blaming the idiotic policy that has the school police riding around all day in cars.

School police should be assigned to buildings, one per building. Put the school police where the students are!

It only makes sense. And that's the way it was at one time.

I hope they will calm down a bit and stop YELLING on this message board. Everyone is frustrated.

Anonymous said...

How do you know he "won" his hearing?

Anonymous said...

They were wrong about the charges, and it was proven during the hearing. Beware the phrase, 'Get him off the bus.'

I can't understand why the Board has let this go on for so long.

It had to be the lawyers greed to extend it so long.

So much wasted taxpayer money on trumped up charges. So many teachers are gone that could have been saved with this money. Such a shame!
