Controversial program in a PA school separating students by race and gender

In this program at Lancaster, PA high school, students are assigned to a homeroom based on race and gender for mentoring:

- The ideas behind the Lancaster approach are similar to explanations given for the PPS approach to Westinghouse and Milliones.

Are we trying to fuse back segregation through the back door!!! this is not MLK dreams
so now there is a new template in which i hope that PPS will not adopt this concept, for part of education reform to help certain student population who is not doing well in school!!!!!
key word here is MENTORS why not match these so called students with MENTORS outside of school by gender and race.
i would be surprise if the BOARD adopt this plan, what you think i just can not see tax payers paying for school segregation

Hate the idea.

My counter approach, if one is even needed, and it looks to be the case, sadly: There is a time and place for everything. If some administrator wants to have all boys in one mentor program and girls in another, then that should happen AFTER SCHOOL, say with a sports team.

But really, I prefer to have even co-ed sports when at all possible. That is one of the benefits to swimming as boys and girls can most often practice together. The water as well as the time and distance don't see gender.

Lovely sentiment, but speaking as a female, I would not want to share pool time with teenage boys. Teenage girls are very self conscious about their bodies at that age.

Survey the girls, the majority of them would agree.

Every teen is self conscious.

Questioner,

Why wasn't my comment posted?

Sometimes the program drops comments, but it looks like all comments have been posted. Would you please try again? Also comments are easier to track if a name other than Anonymous is used.

Educators missed lesson on segregation

Has someone sent Tony Norman the plans for Westinghouse and the racial makeup for Milliones aka University Prep? And the rationale behind these schools? This is what he should be writing about, in his own town, in the district from where his 3 boys graduated.
