I wonder what Fadzen meant by it's just the tip of the iceberg?

I'm not sure Fadzen is the knight in shining armor here.
From the article:
“This is not acceptable. These kids after ’99 were abused, sexually assaulted. Didn’t have to happen,” Former Pittsburgh Public Schools Police Chief Robert Fadzen said.
---
So Fadzen was aware of what was going on. He recommended that Lellock be fired. And he recommended that the Pittsburgh police be informed.
But his recommendations were ignored. What did Fadzen do then? Evidently nothing.
When the safety of children are concerned, that is not acceptable.
Why did Fazden after 1999 incident was treated as the first PPS Lellock incident-why oh why did Fazden not go to the police regarding the other Lellock’s incidents!
Did he stay silent for his own paycheck and not for his morals. Fazden felt others go to the police-and he just sit. Why Fadzen? Your silence or leave the job-one must have a conscience!!!
He at least he put his opinion in writing and repeatedly tried to fire him. I imagine he knew he would lose his job, (unlike Lellock) if he reported anything. The first incident was reported 3 months later.
I am having a hard time wrapping my head around the fact PPS knew about this and did nothing.
To Anonymous 11:06,
Great comments. You hit the nail right on the head.
After Fadzen's recommendations were ignored, why didn't he call the city police himself?
Why didn't he go to every Board meeting and object, publicly and loudly?
Sure, he might have lost his job. But the abuse of a child is almost as bad as murdering a child.
No one should stand by and just let that happen, especially year after year.
Oh fazden did a lot more than that, but he was ignored. He tried to do the right thing, but pps and the powers to be silence it. He gave them what he had and the police too. He was a cop himself and new that things should have went further, and but for him many of this would have never come about. So instead of critizing him on this one we need to praise him. Way to go chief, there is more to come. Wait to Lellock talks to save his soul, he will out them all.
I think it is unfair to point fingers at Fazden, he at least TRIED, and apparently well enough over a long period of time that cost him his job. I don't work at PPS, but accusing the ONE person that left a paper trail, lost his job and was publicly humiliated and dismissed seems unfair unless you know the ENTIRE story. A lot (OK, 5)of people have told me working at Central office is very stressful on a person. I am not taking anything away from the teachers!
One former employee told me they didn't notice it until they left then realized a few months later the emotional abuse and deciet really took a toll on their health. It can be a very verbally abusive place.
Maybe Fazden stuck around and kept reporting Lellock because he had false hope he could change fire him or at the very least keep tabs on him knowing that if he quit or got fired there wouldn't be anyone left to stubbornly report his rape closet. Another important piece of the puzzle regards City police Vs. school police. The city police don't like or respect PPS police, it is now obvious why.

Stress, fear and loss of self and job seems to be a major "perk" of working for the unhinged 100% panic mode. The people that ignored him and blocked him are more dangerous.
Marty Griffin needs to make a strong case-it appears from the article that Zappala goves 90 days and the case is closed/
Lellock will commit himself to insanity so this case will be gone.
If Fadzen was at PPS, this would certai nly unravel the real story.
I feel this case will dissolve with Lellock's mental capacity and PPS will be onto other business.
Don't sell Marty Griffin short. He is an investigative reporter. Not the kind that can be manipulated. He is out for the truth! These blogs give a lot of stories to investigate.
And so far he's done a terrific job!
Keep up the good work Marty!!!
Best thing to do it to say nothing
Best thing for whom?
