Unfortunately it looks like the reporter did not do his/her homework; the article repeats the (false) statement originally reported by the PG that the district was "spiralling downward" before MR arrived; it also suggests that he produced noteworthy results in terms of achievement, when in reality the district has dropped further behind the state as a whole.

Here is the link to the charts showing that PPS test scores during the 5 years preceding Mark Roosevelt (2000 - 2005) were increasing, and for the most part increasing at a greater rate than they did after Mr. Roosevelt arrived:

I wonder now that the Superintendent has left if the foundations will still make good on their $200,000 pledge to solve Mr. Roosevelt's tax problem?

If they do, does this raise any issues for them as to their non-profit status?

This piece makes it sound like visiting schools was a normal part of the superintendent's day. But, many schools and teachers complained of never seeing him at their school after the first round of visits when he started the job.

Considering that the forum for education is funded by George Soros' organizations, I would not give much credence to the article nor would I trust the education of my children in his hands or anyone or group affiliated with him; such as John Tarka and Mark Roosevelt. The Broad foundation must go before PPS is doomed.

The education of our children has been completely taken over by the progressive neoliberals.

Anon, I don't think you are being very fair.

If the cameras were rolling, Mr. Roosevelt did not miss an opportunity to visit a school.

is there anyone going to the forum
with Dr. Lane for open questions?
i be working late on monday.
can someone ask a question for me?

Question
being since we have a high afro males drop out rate what would you do different than MR to help bring down the high drop out rate of this target population, also do you have a plan to address this issue and when would your plan be implemented

thank you

You mean like the Walton Family? And honestly, all the rhetoric from Gates sounds far more business, profit motive, screw the workers right wing than progressive or liberal.

Truth is that both the left and the right have jumped on this bandwagon -- a bandwagon that was given its very biggest shove by NCLB.

Goggle the Term Neo-Liberal

Old Timer said...

Neo liberal? What a hoot. This effort transcends politics. It's big money pushing an agenda by throwing billions at heretofore sacred cows--like education---an earmarking the cash at some avenue within, in this case--the elimination of teachers who want kids to think for themselves.
Neo-liberal?
In this regard, does it really matter who the superintendent in PPS is? We have no one within earshot who will tell these charlatans to keep their money and their agenda. No one has the courage. Heck, even the union leader kissed big money's ring.
Aw well, history is rife with these efforts, and the effects of brainwashing the students could make for volumes. Hitler burned books to squelch education endangering his message.
Gates, Soros, Buffet, Turner and the gang throw billions at "leadership" to ensure their beliefs are force fed.
Welcome to America.
A sad era for teachers.
An even sadder era for students.

Roosevelt is tired, Try teaching in the PPS for twenty years. The last five being the worse, and yet it is still going to get worse untill school board members are voted out.

Has anyone seen this report?

http://publications.iowa.gov/5226/1/0530-1737-T00Z.pdf

I cannot attend tonight's meet and greet, but I wonder if anyone that will be attending could ask Dr. Lane about her role in the improper bidding practices at her prior district.

Anonymous said...

Anon, I cannot attend either, but I too have questions and wonder if crime statistics in PPS will now be properly reported:

I bet no one the school board or the media read that report.

Did anyone attend the Linda Lane meeting at CAPA tonight? I did not see anything on the news, but I wasn't paying close attention.

Yes I did attend the Linda Lane meet and greet.

Someone on the Blogg has a question they wanted asked. The question was:

Since we have a high afro males drop out rate what would you do different than MR to help bring down the high drop out rate of this target population, also do you have a plan to address this issue and when would your plan be implemented?

Answer, I do not believe she answered the question; however she said that African American Male Drop out rate was apart of her studies and talked about how amazing it is when students who can grow up in identical environments and some students are much more resilient than others. That we need to figure out what makes these students so resilient to overcome issues and look into their roots and succeed in school while others drop out or do poorly. She said how we can help them build resilience.

Dr. Lane said she has developed a “First 100 Day Plan” and that this will be put on the District website today so that we can see what she want to accomplish in the first 100 days.

A couple of ;the things that are on her agenda to look at are:
• Look at the Parental Evaluations
• Want to build community and civic partnerships
• Re look at the Excellence for All and see if it needs readjustment
• She is willing to look at re look at what is going on and assess to see if anything needs adjusting.

Someone asked about her thoughts on how she feels special education is in the PPS.(and believe it or not it was not my question)
Her response was: She feels special education is getting better. We need to use the response to intervention, she wants to look at the special education curriculum and like the relationship with the Right to Education Local Task Force and feels we could do a better job at bringing together regular and special ed.

Thanks Stephanie!

It seems like there is some encouraging news, esp w/ special ed and inclusiveness.

The Parent Evaluation forms tend to be very limited. Hopefully they will eventually also talk with those who are leaving or who make choices other than PPS. Re: Excellence for All- by readjustment, did she seem to be referring to the EFA test goals which are currently far more aspirational than realistic?

I hear A+ is already planning to give her an A grade thanks to having such a meeting with real parents and students.

It will be interesting to see who Dr. Lane retains in her inner circle. That will be very telling. If Mark Roosevelt's people are retained, we will know we are in for more of the same. I would hope she would get rid of some of them and initiate her own agenda and way of doing things.

There are postings on the PPS web site for some new applicants.

Staff members resistant to public input are the ones that should be replaced.

Staff members who did not drink the kool-aid were let go or replaced prior to the regime change, I imagine there are a few more to go.

She will surround herself with people who believe she is terrific. I then predict Jerri Lippert (who Lane loves) will throw Lane under the bus and stage a coup.

PPS is owned by Broad & Gates.
