Re: "he has a contract"- Board members should not act surprised- it was clearly pointed out to them that the contract bound the school district but, despite the stated goal of retaining the superintendent, left him free to leave without penalty at any time.

Last night’s meeting gave many budgetary indicatives and costs-will money and RAISE of taxes scare MR?
IT WILL BE THE SAME boat with Dr. Lane.
We need complete change-they both need to leave to have a fresh start for our children and their futures.
Dr. Lane no interim job-but this could be a ploy?

ANOTHER METHOD TO KEEP HIM WITH MORE MONEY AS AN INCENTIVE-LET HIM GO AS QUESTIONER MENTIONED.

I hope he is leaving for DC and taking hid PHD, (Linda Lane) with him.

Doesn't look so good in the pictures. Maybe the job is making him sick.

Roosevelt will resign at p.m. today October 6, 2010.

IS Roosevelt’s RESIGNATION PERSONAL OR BUSINESS?

Will he stay on until another Superintendent is chosen?

Will we be stuck with another Broadie Dr. Lane as interim-which is the female version of Roosevelt?

SHE IS NOT THE ANSWER-WE WILL BE STUCK with Dr Lane BECAUSE OF THE BOARD FEAR OF CHANGE-ANOTHER MESS-Dr Lane for 5 more years.

We need a super clean sweep of all PPS ADM.

I hope all will be fine for ROOSEVELT AND HIS FUTURE-SINCERELY-he has a young family and they need him as well as PPS.

That conflict can tear you apart.
Was this sudden move or a planned move-he also can be shrewd –does he have to give them notice of 90 days or bye tonight.

I wonder if this was sudden or planned.

HE SHOULD WRITE a book-and maybe he has a total different perspective of what he has to do and what is in his heart..

But, I betcha we will be stuck with him for at least another year-that will be more of a mess-just leave and do not give us this setup to keep hangin on-just leave and let us start over with immediate results for our children.

This transition will be a real joke-it just makes things more of a mess with waiting-just leave and move on-let others take over and make things right.

People that hang on just cause more problems out of issues.

I HOPE WE ARE NOT AT THE BOARD NEGOTIATING DR LANE IN HIS POST-what a mess for us and the though of derrick Lopez as lANE'S NEXT IN LINE.

Good Luck MARK Roosevelt-follow your heart-maybe you seen what it is in the trenches-you really have a heart courage and a brain-and yes a better job offer.

Re: it being very likely that he will become president of a liberal arts college- so much of a college president's job these days is fund raising. It seems like this would be a good match.

I wonder if Mr. Brentley will be attending the news conference-and will our other Board member be attending with Kleenex boxes.

The giggles to outright crying-the women on this board are very immature at times.

HOW MANY COMPUTERS AT THE BOARD THIS MOMENT Having PPS ADM REVISING THEIR RESUMES AND WHIPPING THEM OUT FOR JOBS-PRAYING TO GET ANOTHER JOB-WASTING TIME ABOUT THEMSELVES AND NOT OUR KIDS.

I hope and pray Lane leaves with the rest PPP ADM-IMMEDIATELY-clean house fast and swift.

Can we revoke the PRESENT BOARD INITIATIVES and school closings and start over as my neighbors are asking?

WE need change fast-this board will have all the rest stay until they get their second retirement check from pension plans.

WILL THE BROADIES REALLY LEAVE?

My husband compared them to the STINK BUGS that have taken over the community creeping into our houses.

Yes, you are right-he is an excellent candidate for this type of position-it is a great job for him-fund-raising relaxing now- leave all this mandated educational testing left to educators stuck with teaching degrees.

He is brilliant he knows when to leave-his timing is impeccable. He leaves right at the moment –when it is on his terms-

He gets a nice home on or near campus-where his family can enjoy a peaceful life with great monetary funding for the college he works -win-win situation-he represents a man with status influence and an excellent choice to run a college with his new title. He might be moving to a location that is better for his family or a better position here at a renowned university.

You only live one life on this earth-and he is a Roosevelt-so he can have more options.
In the end-he truly is a Roosevelt descendent-he has a conscience and intelligence to know what is futuristic and best for him-he can see the impossible of what lies ahead for k-12 education-tedious and time-consuming. Maybe not the right answers for teaching and learning-but inflated researched theories of university professors that never where in the classrooms.

I really feel he seen a lot bebecause he is an outsider looking into education-because he was never a K-12 teacher-the past year he can understand statistics and welcomed the challenge to help PPs to get on the right road-bow he can leave and least we have a start?

IS HE AN IDEALIST OR A REALIST?
Good Luck MR-take Dr Lane along to work for you.

Questioner said...

He is definitely a big dreamer. More than that? We may never know.

Re: revoking present board initiatives and school closings- it is only fair to allow a new superintendent to make these decisions. And first, there should be an open and thorough nationwide search for the best person to fill the job.

bystander said...

What will really change with someone new at the helm? We still take the lead from DC and unless Duncan is going somewhere too we could get a Rhee or worse. We are locked in to teacher effectivess and Gates and need the money whether we like it or not. What would be best is to get someone who could get approval for a different direction with Gates money but with the same improvement to the final outcomes expected.

I look forward to seeing ideas here in the blog that are workable and within our budget to be considered by whomever is in the superintendent's chair.

THANK You I agree- in REALITY, our school district has suffered with all the school CLOSINGS, RESTRUCTURING, and REVISIONS TO CONTRACTS.

Our teacher core of 2000 will suffer with this four o 5-year contract as their legal binding document.

This has hurt our children and communities in many locations.
He reminds me of the great Ancient European Conquers-when they acquired countries as their territories—DIVIDE AND CONQUER.

My main concern is rid all ADM AT THE BOARD-BUT THIS board WANTS NO CHANGE BECAUSE THEY LACK THE BRAINS TO MAKE CHANGE-WE WILL BE STUCK WITH LANE AND THE SAME CREW.
We need new elected Board members.

IN the end Roosevelt caused all this mess and walks away-and we are stuck with the rest of this poor indept ADM-they will keep Lane and othersp--they are a mess of mkistsakes they have impeded.

Anonymous said...

I am keeping my fingers crossed that he's outta here. I'll even pay for the moving trucks and supply the movers.

Anonymous said...

bystander you are right-Another broadie?

YES, DUNCAN AND Rhee can be looking for other jobs-because people today are and have to look out for oneself.

Nevertheless, this district has suffered tremendously the past 5 years-empty buildings and declining enrollment-

Do not give me the answer-it was in the cards without him as Superintendent-this would have happened Schenley-etc.

Roosevelt is leaving with half of the HOUSE BUILT-IS THIS A GOOD CONTRACTOR-if you had him as your contractor would you be angered.

Imagine the teacher core-that has to live with this crazed contract-new teaches-we are stuck for 4 or more years with this mess-and Lane at its helm.

Did ROOSEVELT Bolt on us?

And leave us with a mess?

Was he SUPERMAN?

How much more will his salary be?

IS THIS WHY LANE STATED SHE CANOT LEAVE PITTSBURGH FOR IOWA BECUASE OF UNFINISHED BUSINESS OR WORK HERE?

Did ROOSEVELT Bolt on us?

Yes, he DID-in a real fine mess-

In addition, leave us with a mess?

Yes, he left with a real mess from change agents and negative result variables-no interpretztive data-with Lane as his successor.

Was he SUPERMAN?

He acted like one-and never was one-we HAVE SUPERWOMAN DR LANE TO FILL IN OR DR LIPPERTT.

How much more will his salary be?

He is cushioned for life-and he will get a handsome take-home change as a settlement from the PPS Board.

My husband said Mr. Brentley should be looking at Roosevelt’s cell bills and contractual clauses-lambast this board Brentley for bolting on our children and do not settle for Lane .

If he goes to Antioch in Ohio, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antioch_University

can Pgh kids spend their Pgh Promise scholarships there, please?

bystander said...

buildings needed to be closed, Schenley WAS not one, but many others, yes. really, which schools should be reopened under a new leader? we can't operate like we have the same number of kids we did 25 or 30 years ago. DC is watching, Harrisburg is watching and we need to make bold moves sometimes before somebody comes along and does it for us. who wants to volunteer to increase his taxes to reopen buildings?

Anonymous said...

Mark Rauterkus said..@. October 6, 2010 12:03 PM

We are asking the same question –can we use our Promise money there at Ohio University.

WTAE ARE STATIN G PEOPLE ARE MOVING HERE-because of Roosevelt -our city ranking in the top 10 for education and the Promise money.

At the same time, people are moving out of the city school for other reasons regarding Roosevelt’s change initiatives.

Questioner said...

The problem is, that at the same time buildings were being closed due to excess capacity money was being spent and capacity added to other buildings- including Sterrett, Milliones, Concord, and now Oliver.

Pittsburgh schools chief a finalist for Ohio college presidency

The Tribune is reporting Roosevelt is a FINALIST FOR THE JOB.

Well - are we now seeing a publicity maneuver for buyout, a real true move for him FOR his career or a need to have people cry for him to stay here and not LEAVE-MAYBE HE WANTS A PAT ON THE BACK LIKE OUR CHILDREN AND WE NEED DAILY TO FEEL WANTED?

Maybe he has to alert the board for contractual reasons for monetary settlements.
T
his is unnecessary for this publicity escapade for the fact he is a Finalist-was not he finalist for Austin, Texas Schiil District.

Anonymous said...

Questioner said... October 6, 2010 12:23 PM

A very valid data element.

This capacity is beyond true demographic data.

We have seen Reizeinstein close and reopen-Milliones close and reopen and additions added to schools that are unnecessary-he has shifted the zip code population-does anyone have the hard core data of how many students we have lost in the past 5years?

We are losing students to charter schools-that are still receiving Promise money.

he has caused a lot of money placed in this conceptual restructuring-Manchester, Schaffer, Westwood, Perry, and other schools are full of abestos-

Annette Werner said...

Asbestos is out of Perry- but there is plenty left in Vann, which will be the temporary home of Northview students. But Schenley students couldn't stay in their school for even a year or two to graduate and avoid 8M+ spent on Reizenstein.

Questioner said...

Re: Antioch- the WSJ had an interesting article about its serious financial problems and closure (maybe it reopened). They definitely need money, but it is among the most non-corporate schools imaginable. How does that square with a Broad mindset?

Anonymous said...

Anonymous said... Pittsburgh schools chief a finalist for Ohio college presidency

RIGHT ON –a publicity maneuver for money-yes he was a finalist in Austin-so he is ONLY A FINALIST.

What a great PR MOVE-the camera is on him and all the tearing for him to stay.

Anonymous said...

They should fire him if that is the case.

Anonymous said...

Annette Werner said...the right answers with school facilities

Yes, ANNETTE –why not $8 million for Schenley and house Northview in Vann-why not Rooney on the North Side it is empty for a year-

Vann asbestos-please give me the logic with this rationale from the Board.

BOY-THIS IS A GREAT JOB-HE IS THE ONLY FINALIST-HE IS A ROUGH RIDER

Antioch College is closed, but after it was re-established by its alumni, it intends to reopen in the fall of 2011

Mr. Roosevelt is the only finalist for the presidency of Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio.

He is to meet with college officials next week. He is likely to be offered the job shortly thereafter, but in any case will leave the superintendency in Pittsburgh Dec. 31

HE WILL MAKE THE COLLEGE PROMISE READY-ALL PPS GRADUATES WILL ATTEND as the school reopens.

I wonder if Eli Broad is opening an official college for his academy? He already has the Eli Broad school of management at Michigan or Michigan state.

We are stuck with broadies, Eli will pick up his toys and leave if we don't play by his rules. Same with Gates.

I can only imagine how many people are looking for jobs today.

It was real classy of MR to wait until he got his bonus, and remaining moving expenses from the taxpayers.

I want to meet Roosevelt’s employment Headhunter or Agent that facilitates him to acquire jobs.

Is this going to be a BROAD CAMPUS UNIVERSITY?

A broad four year university for undergraduate students-

Gates can turn this into a teachers college-with Rhee as the dean of students.

I have David LETTERMAN’S top ten list for tonight’s show on MARK ROOSEVELT’S new career move

WE AS PARENTS MUST READ BETWEEN HIS WORDS AND PR LANGUAGE-what is this all about for our chuldren.

Is the press conference being televised or webcast?

Please god not Jerri Lippert, Linda Lane or Derrick Lopez. We need to put pressure on the board, how do we do that?

What good is his contract? No penalty for leaving I assume?

Anonymous said...

I'm a little confused here by the rendering of three names of left-overs. While I wouldn't the other two to wash my car, Lane at least has a track record of remembering what it was like to be a teacher. I'm not sure Lopez or the gym teacher ever knew.
Let's be honest, though. Anytime you have millions of dollars laying around, you're going to have undue influence on the position.

Me? I live for the day a true leader comes in, sees how many pretenders occupy office space on Bellefield Avenue and quickly fires some while sending most content supervisors back into the lowest performing schools.

Oh, what a dream.

I hope our next Super is a former teacher that was also a principal that has experienced and lived through the "blame the teacher" reform phase. Has no ties with Broad and Gates and understands that urban education starts with the community and ends with the community. There is no magic bullet, nor superman. We have minus 1 maybe 2 school board members that actually represent their district. The rest fall in line for Gates and Broad, not us.

PPS is ridiculously administration heavy, with superintendents, chiefs, VP, assistant VP of management, executive directors, directors of directors, assistant chief of director talent, the talent management department alone could be a great stand up act trying to explain it.

Too bad it isn't funny. Who spends this much money with a student population less than 27,000 kids?
