PURE Reform has created this blog as a forum for parents, teachers and community members to share information and voice concerns regrading the reform process in the Pittsburgh Public Schools. Although we would like to foster constructive dialogue, PURE Reform does not edit content. The views expressed by bloggers in this forum are not necessarily views held by PURE Reform.

Too bad all those people wasted their time Monday night expressing their views to the Board. Like everything else with PPS, it was a done deal from the start. The Board just rubber-stamped what Lane and Co. decided. We really don't need a Board as they don't really do anything.
They learned they don't need to listen when they closed Schenley. I know that there are lots of people sick of hearing about it, but once they were able to close not only the building but the whole idea of it against organized support...the rest of the district was doomed.
It's a shame more people didn't listen at that time -- many of the people who spoke up at the time were talking about the same things we are now -- the total lack of planning ahead, the piles of money spent on consultants, saying things had research backing when they didn't, the money spent on buildings that would then be closed soon after.
But if they could beat that opposition? Well, they knew they had pretty smooth sailing to do whatever they wanted ahead.
3. That the Board authorize payment for eleven (11) current day-to-day substitute teachers to serve as full-time building substitute teachers at The Teaching Institute at Pittsburgh King and The Teaching Institute at Brashear for the remainder of the 2011-2012 school year. The substitutes will be compensated at the appropriate full-time substitute salary rate (based on their years of credited service) through School Improvement Grant (SIG) funds at no cost to the District. The substitutes will add capacity to support the training of Clinical Resident Instructors (CRIs) in the area of teacher evaluation and to permit flexibility in CRIs' participation in the Instructional Quality Assurance and Certification program development. The total cost ofthis action will not exceed $287,000 from account # IBM 4000 2271121. Theresa Colaizzi's son Franco gets another position in PPS - $3,686 at Brashear. Newest Board minutes p. 18
The corruption in this district, from central administration, to the PFT, to board members themselves, is appalling. Doesn't anyone conduct him or herself with integrity anymore?

They succeeded in closing Schenley, but ultimately- can anything good be built on a foundation of deceit?
NO, but that is exactly why the system is literally falling apart. Yet, only the students are paying the price. Everyone else is getting rich quick!
