Did the principals placed on leave receive bonuses?

Is MiChele Holly the daughter of Dr. Regina Holly who is running for school board director? If so, what is her stance on awarding bonuses when the district is financial strapped? Would she vote to continue the incentive program when the federal funds dry up?

No, Dr. Holley has a different last name and is not related.

Another point of view.

We are hearing 300-500 teachers to be furloughed this coming April.
Isn't anyone outside of teachers sickened by this article???
And central administrators will also possibly get bonuses????
Sickening.
Utterly sickening.

Bonuses for principals/ schools in chaos-- I know the PELA philosophy is based on all new- not looking at the past-- but principals just 5 short years-- lead their schools. The beginning of the year was about order before lerning could begin. One principal said that if every student was in their homeroom by 9:30- no one in the office etc-- that was success- then onward to lunch-- besure everyone gets fed that first day-- and then-- everyone on the right bus to go home. THAT is what principals should be getting bonuses for-- running a school-- a general feeling of safety and order- not seeing violence and choas. No bell schedule is a lofty idea-- but lets all remember that rules for a 6-12grade school mean that 11/12 yr. olds are under the same rules as adult seniors. Good principals did treat children like their own-- what would you want for your 11 year old? If bonuses were given for really running a building- they would be very justified- and people would be trying hard to ge4t their students into these safe environments.

I am a teacher.
I would gladly have my own kids taught by average PPS teachers, as they transcend anything in charter, private or suburban schools.
Only...I would NOT allow them to attend a school run by a PELA, period.
Dr.Lane, do the right thing: resign.
And that goes for your lieutenants, too. You and central administration have failed the children of Pittsburgh.
You have demonized teachers.
You have force fed horribly lacking curriculum.
You have protected the salaries of individuals who have nothing to do with the students of Pittsburgh.
Resign. Now.

While we're at it, PFT leadership should resign immediately.
Teachers should know that the PFT brass must be worried about competition. They are busy writing amendments that would forbid candidates from...get this...from meeting with faculties AFTER school hours.

I have to repeat that one:
They are writing laws that will forbid candidates from meeting with faculties AFTER school hours.

This from the organization that had 4 new members voted in two years ago--with two of those spots being full time positions. Instead of listening to the voters who pushed these non-slate candidates in with a mandate, they formed new laws to keep those voted OUT on call at the PFT building while making those two full time slots NOT full time after all.

This is a union that represents my best interests? At $850 a year?

Please-- tax payers and media-- read what Old Timer just said-- it is totally true. All the teachers have at this point is the on-line resources to tell the tale-- the union offers us nothing as it stands now...many times in the past 40 years- teachers went to the union the help....students. When a situation was way wrong, principals told teachers to go to union and policies were changed. It will not happen now.
